America's Army: Teams From the Past Edition II

By: Nick Thomas - Published June 29, 2007 at 9:04 PM EDT - Writer Archive
In the second installment of teams from the past, Nick "haunter" Thomas breaks the early years of TWL and what happened to some of the greatest teams to play in that day.
This second installment includes some of Americas Army's most renown teams. Ranging from perpetual contenders in ST-6, grayfox, FightClub, Operation Mayhem and Soldiers at Work to the infamous Check 6. There are also the staple teams that never emerged into the top tier in their time such as Strike Force 1, Global Genocide, Masterful and Determined, and Blood Brothers.
Soldiers at Work *SAW*
Overall Record: 421-289-4
Roster Through Time: Steadyshot, Chunky, Terror, Bpowder, bushwick, downtown, hack-SAW-, Indiana, peacekeeper, Rip, Sherman, Sickness, son-of Minerva, Sparrow, Vader, Voo, and Freeze
Favorite Maps: Weapons Cache, Pipeline, Insurgent Camp

SAW was originally a Black Hawk Down and CS squad. When AA came out they formed a team with players from these games. Two of the original SAW members from its conception in 1999 still remain and run the team which are Rip and Vader. Although they are not real active as of late, they still have a website at www.sawsquad.com and also compete in the 2v2 ladder on Teamwarfare. Their greatest nemesis was ST-6 when SAW was in its prime back in 2003. The closest they have come to a title is when they lost to Terrorist Elimination Network in 2003. SAW also competed in CAL, after making the playoffs and losing in the quarterfinals the first year, we were moved up to Main, Shortly afterwards the activity went down and the team had to be revamped and new active recruits brought in.

Masterful and Determined -=)v(aD=-
Overall Record: 149–66-10
Roster Through Time: Assassin, Magician, DarXide, Ghost9, Nitrov-54, Rook, Texan, Slain, Tristan, Sayen, Shadow, Snipe3D, Doc, Mr Click-E, DemiZer, MoBucks
Favorite Maps: Pipeline, Weapons Cache SE, Mountain Pass

MaD picked up AA in late 2002 from the UT Mod Infiltration. Some real life friends joined with those from UT to form the team. As they started competition some rivalries sparked, mainly with VX9, NW Recon, PxT, and oR. They were always in the mix for leagues and playoffs. Their greatest accomplishment is when they made it to the finals of the 2003 TWL open league but fell short against NW Recon on Weapons Cache SE. As time went by real life issues popped up as well as some infighting which lead to member leaving. They eventually left for WoW but made a brief comeback to the AA scene in 2006.

Seal Team Six ST-6
Overall Record: 183-22-5
Roster Through Time: Medic[+], Gunhavok, Maverick (rbt), Burn, Machine, Intel-Inside, Sovkan, Cpl. Glad, UDRINK, Trix, Fate, PurpleHaze, Tempus, Vaeder, Rocky, CrazedKilla, DarkTool, Nex, Shivan, M@ttox, MissnLink, Breezer, Mr. Sneaky, Fusion94, Damos, Herpes
Favorite Maps: Insurgent Camp

Many good players have come and gone with the ST-6 tag on. They dominated in every available competition open to them and many consider Medic to be one of the best strategists to play the game. They had some intense rivalries with 2nd, ten, Red Dawn, NMG, and later Rising Storm, Instruments of God, and Check Six.

The team reached their peak when they won the inaugural TWL invite season against FightClub on Weapons Cache SE. The following season they made it to the finals match but fell short against heated rivals Check Six on SF CSAR. The team retired, then made a short lived comeback to participate in one last TWL invite league in 2005, but then medic finally laid the team to rest. Some say that after ST-6 left it created an opening for other teams to rise into the spotlight with ex members spitting off.

Check Six x6
Overall Record: 201-29-2
Roster Through Time: bxf, fresh, MasterChief, Florjackson, D-Boy, Wolverine, Sneaky, rbt, Protist, Rakez, nonChalant, goober, MaYHeM, Dark Teletubbie, Nef-Tyrant, s1nical, Jok3r, Loco, DaveyCrockett, moony, totte
Favorite Maps: Tunnel, Weapons Cache, Mountain Pass, River Basin

This team formed because some of the members were unhappy with things in NMG, that combined with Wolverine (Rich) always wanted his own team lead to their founding. They are known to have been one of the leading competitive teams to ever have played Americas Army. Every game was a big one in the beginning for Check Six when all teams were on fairly even footing. Some intense games included any against ST-6, NMG, ten, 82nd, and Red Dawn. But their biggest rivalry was that with IoG.

They were at the top of their game during 2004 when they defeated ST-6 on SF CSAR to earn their first and only TWL invite title. Check Six contributed to the community by having game admins, match observers, participating in LANs, and who could forget Flor’s top lists. During the first CAL-O season for Americas Army they gradually lost interest in the game and decided to make continue as a multi-gaming professional e-sport team. Here is their website where you can find some more history on the team. www.check6gaming.com

FightClub [FC]
Overall Record: 307-196-1
Roster Through Time: BlackLabel, Split, Oneway, Nookie, Vulcanblood, Ethernal, Fabbri, Sky, Haven, Chef, darkdove, Leadhead, NobleEagle
Favorite Maps: Mout Mckenna, Weapons Cache, Insurgent Camp

Once looked at as one of the best CQB teams in AA and a staple in most invite leagues. They participated in many leagues and seasons usually falling short in playoffs and during the regular season. During the first TWL invite league FC managed to make it to the finals match against the much vaunted ST-6 but were unable to overcome, losing on Weapons Cache SE.

In a change of events FightClub finally won their first title when they took the second season of CAL open. They lost some key players to other teams after the championship and FC suffered through some losing seasons in leagues. To end their illustrious career they had to forfeit their last half of the past TWL invite season. FightClub eventually died on May 10, 2007 after enduring some painful last couple of seasons with their remaining active roster heading over to vI (Volatilis Infensus).
