America's Army: Official July 4th Site Release & 3.0 Info

By: Matt Wuthrich - Published July 04, 2007 at 8:06 AM EDT - Writer Archive
While the new engine may be a ways off, the US Army has released a new build of the official game's site. The new design is only aesthetic but still worth a quick look.
It seems that three will either be the magic number for the game this year, or the downfall as public play numbers are dropping, and competition teams begin to finally grow for the first time in over three years. The theme for the site is based off the new Army BDU camouflage and everything from the forums to the site's flash have been re designed from the ground up. The US Army press release has this to say:
A short while ago the America's Army Web Applications team was tasked with designing and developing a new website in support of America's Army's fifth anniversary. Armed with a terrific design and brilliant engineering the team set out to accomplish an almost impossible task.

What you are seeing now is the result of hundreds of hours of programming and design elements. We hope you like what you see so far. In the coming days and weeks, further changes will be made and new features will be added, and all this is for you, the community. It's our small way of saying thanks for the loyalty you've shown us these past 5 years.

We hope you're pleased with our new look and ask that you bear with us as we make additional modifications. We have some very exciting times ahead of us, and we're eager for you to come along for the ride.

In my opinion the new site is large and slow, to the point where my mouse begins to slow down as it moved across the screen of the new flash, but on newer machines this might not be the case. While the forms, and off site links seem to still be bugging and not operational, the site is only a few hours old. The Army will more than likely prioritize their site bugs over those in game.

I strongly suggest anyone who doesn't want a release filled with new guns and new enemy spotted features to begin posting in the official forums. Hopefully a list of features and details for match play such as a 3 second freeze time to stop the gun bugs on 100tic servers, accurate demos, or less critical errors in tournament mode, and less overall game bugs will somehow see their way onto a list.
