America's Army: BYOC Tournament Purse cut to $5,000

By: Matt Wuthrich - Published August 21, 2007 at 4:33 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Due to, as expected, a low turnout, the CPL announced they will be halving the tournament's byoc event from ten thousand dollars to five thousand dollars.
This morning competitors registered for the BYOC tournament, received an email similar to the one seen below, which told them that with the BYOC only eight days away the turnout has forced the CPL to lower the prize pool to $5,000. Below is a copy of the email one of the competitors received.
"I am emailing you to let you know that with the limited amount of signups, only 4 complete teams registering, the prize purse for the Americas Army Tournament have been reduced from $10,000 to $5000. Anyone that is on a partial team at the end of the day will also be converted over from a competitor to an attendee.

This in turn makes the payout equal to the GGL's ONLINE Army Gaming Championship Ladder/Bracket portions. Team's claim the dates conflict with the beginning of university, and with only a few weeks notice the event was not practical to attend. This combined with the CPL's selling out to sierra for their world tour and cutting the support of 1.6 (Counter Strike) and only hosting a CSS (Counter Strike Source) BYOC event has lead to the events failing status in other major competitive games.

Grand Prize, $2,000
Runner Up, $1,500
3rd Place, $1,000
4th Place, $500
