America's Army Development Project: EAX Sound in v3.0. Check out the links to read more about it. The America's Army game project was invited to the 2007 Creative Labs Game Developer Conference to participate in a Developer Relations sponsored conference session entitled Advanced Audio Techniques in UnrealEngine3. During the conference, members of the America's Army Game Project audio team discussed aspects of how audio is implemented and manipulated in America's Army 3.0. The team explains how sounds are acquired, optimized, and finally placed into the maps. The most exciting point is a short demo of America's Army v3.0 focusing on EAX sound effects. This is the first time the Army Gaming Project has shown anything regarding AA 3.0 to the public. The game is still in its very early development cycles, and is far from resembling a finished product. For the demo, the map Steamroller was imported in a very basic form to show how the team uses EAX 'zones' in different areas of the map to provide unique and accurate audio effects. Utilizing EAX allows the development team to produce a variety of high quality sound effects while keeping the asset count down for increased performance. SFC Doug Davidson, United States Army Special Forces is also brought in to explain his role as Integration Manager for the team. He gives insight into how the Army exposes the game development team to different types of training, weapons, and tactics employed in the field. He is also responsible for helping the development team get access to motion, video, and audio capture of authentic Army weaponry, equipment, and soldiers for accurate portrayal within the game. Highlights from the session have been published by Creative Labs on their Creative Developer Relations YouTube Channel. http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=SoundBlasterXFi&p=r Advanced Audio Techniques in Unreal Engine 3 (Part 5) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jigy0eL5XcY Advanced Audio Techniques in UnrealEngine 3 (Part 6) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZCdBEcLLQQ |
