America's Army: CEVO Playoffs Round 2 Melee

By: Dave Munro - Published March 17, 2008 at 4:11 PM EST - Writer Archive
For the past 2 years jCp and oR have battled over and over again. They both strive to be the #1 team in America's Army. This week they faced off yet again in the CEVO Pro playoffs, but this time they were both on the brink of elimination after losing their 1st round playoff matches.
I took a few minutes to ask players from each match for a quick recap of what happened. Plus I requested the rosters. Yes, the article is late, but I had a busy weekend :)

CEVO Professional Matchups

Audigy vs Mug 'N Mouse

Rosters:
aud!jonny
aud!mofo
aud!proton
aud!kilatoby
mugNmouse.spanker
mugNmouse.noofy
mugNmouse.hendrix
mugNmouse.myth

Result: MNM > aud 10-8 OT

aud!ChiefJonny's recap:

He claimed it was probably the worst match they played since the point where swisha was on the team, at least the worst with the current starting 4. A couple of things went wrong: a) on defense there was a round where they had a guy in the cubby next to prime, another guy 3rd floor and the guy took prime in a 2 on 1. b) other rounds with poor communication and pushing 1 at a time. He believed the way they played the match didn't deserve to go to overtime. When I commented on the fact that chris wasn't there for MNM which should have made it easier, jonny's reply was:
In the past few times chris has played us he has done absolutely horrible, but he generally is a solid player. I wouldn't really say they beat us, we beat ourselves for sure

mugNmouse.spanker's recap:

1st round mofo tk'd proton in 2v1 and noofy took the valve, 2nd round 1v2 he (spanker) took prime, then they defended main pump room the next 5 rounds with success. MNM camped prime for most part on D, with 1 push where they caught them and another which failed and lost.
Aud also broke one of the prime camps. In OT, MNM got raped first round of assault, 2nd round of assault, kills were traded until it was 3v2 for MNM. They pushed two prime and forced them to push down, hendrix had some sick cover on spanker who was flashed twice, and myth got great pick before he died as well. Then MNM swept them on defense. It was the noofy and hendrix show.

just Cause project vs overRated

Rosters:
-jCp.stan..
-jCp.dtraf..
-jCp.RAF..
-jCp.noodle..
[oR.epic]
[oR.scarface]
[oR.osiris]

Result: jCp > oR 8-0 technically

jCp.dtraf's summary:

When I asked dtraf whether oR tried to reschedule knowing they only had 3 he replied "not to my knowledge". They went live after several dead rounds and went AFK in spawn as dtraf and stan took them out by shooting them from the vent and stan rushing them. On defense overRated again went AFK and jCp went into the CP room shooting 2 of them then giving the last guy a thumbs up before taking him out.

Clean's recap:

overRated was given the choice to either have their match casted by E-Rev.tv or to accept a forfeit loss since the rule for casts states that if one team agrees to cast then the match can be casted without consent from the second team. Whether jCp wanted the match to be casted knowing oR would put up a fit and possibly forfeit or because jCp always tries to bring more attention to the game, and this cast would give it plenty of publicity, is an ongoing debate. Either way, overRated has never accepted doing a cast except against a well know cheater team a while back known as Parental Advisory (pA). The reasons for their refusal to be casted have always been somewhat unclear, but judging from what happened in this match, they are dead serious about never wanting to be casted. They made a statement to the competitive community that they absolutely will not allow their matches to be casted. To prove their point they delayed the cast for over half an hour by calling dead round after dead round, by faking critical errors. Then once they went live, they did not move from spawn and just let jCp shoot them down. By doing this they wasted time of several viewers and showed to everyone that they will not have their matches casted no matter what. At first I found this very immature, but in the end they wanted to make a point and were successful in doing this.

Match goes to OT where MNM steals a round on assault, and sweeps D for the victory

overRated----
oR rebelled for having to cast on E-Rev.tv so they camped spawn every round FTL.

CEVO Amateur Matchups

FightClub vs Version 3

Rosters:
fc.lulu-
fc.laz-
DontH@te
fc.split-
-v3.Twi$T
-v3.Snap$hot-
-v3.$coped
-v3.Maverick52

Result: fc > v3 8-0 sweep

Clean's recap:

FightClub started on defense and resisted Version 3's pushes pretty easily most rounds, adjusting their positions each time a breach was made to tag up on the enemy. Finally v3 got some hope and got it down to a 1v2 situation where there guy blew up 1 enemy but soon after got shot. Switching to assault fc only had to win one round. They pushed v3 back into main pump room quickly and were able to take them all out in the end to get the round they needed right away and get the 8-0 victory.

EFlow vs IceNine

Rosters:
i9.sani
i9.haunter
i9.myz
i9.wh!z
eFlow.terror
eFlow.gillvic
eFlow.CommieKid
eFlow.stoormy

Result: eFlow > i9 8-6

a summary from wh!z:

There were 2-3 rounds that were the difference in the 8-6 loss to EFlow. 1 round on assault sani was taking prime and whiz tk'd him messing up that round. 1 round on defense haunter tossed a nade at prime hearing the guy taking it and it had a super short fuse and exploded mid-air. Another round on defense myz's vent muted so he didn't fall back and got him and sani killed. Highlights for i9 were an ace from whiz on defense and an ace from sani on assault, both in 1v4 situations and were the best clutches ever.

Radiance vs Elite Tactical Unit

Result: rad > ETU 8-1

I don't have the rosters. Xblade's take on the match was that his team Radiance started on assault and would make them fall back to a main pump room camp every round. They won 6 of the 7 rounds on assault. He didn't see all that much action as he pushed from West Entrance each round to support a prime valve push. Radiance won the only 2 rounds they had on defense with ease and again xblade played west so he didn't see much action.

Volatilis Infensus vs Team unRestricted

Result: vI > unR FFW

All Mr.Clean had to do was post in match comms a proposed date, and unR got skeered and didn't respond back so vI won even with Mr.Clean being the only rostered player on vent that night haha. Yes I know unR quit AA for COD4 and other games, blah blah blah.

Dropouts vs NeFarious Gaming

Rosters:
Dropouts had big, dazed, mxz, rick
NEF had vault, whitey, ransum, and twitch

Result: drp > NEF 8-2

Big's Recap

We (dropouts) really shut them down on defense, stopping everything they threw us at for us for the first 6 rounds. Then, with a couple nice shots they were able to get in a 2v1 situation and take the cp for our final round on defense. We switched to assault, where they main pump camped. First round, they killed us pretty easily. 2nd round I was able to grab prime after dazed snuck into cp and created a distraction. 3rd round we were able to breach main pump and get prime again.

Unreasonable Ownage vs Knights of the Round Table

Rosters:
Unreasonable Ownage had pest, vicious, alkali and aligator
Knights roster is unknown

Result: U > k 8-4

TribalWolf's outtake on the match

He wasn't in the match, but by listening in it sounded like rape. U went 4-3 on assault. They won the first 2 rounds, losing a 3rd in a 4v2 situation due to vic killing himself and alkali with a nade. Once they switched to D, they lost the first round, then they won the rest on route to the 8-4 win.

Scoreboard1H2HOTF
Dropouts62-8
Nefarious Gaming12-3
Even Flow26-8
IceNine Gaming51-6
FightClub71-8
Version 3----
fc swept D, then won 1st round assault

overRated suffered their second loss and thus were eliminated in CEVO-p. Version 3 and Team unRestricted both received their second loss and were knocked out of the CEVO-a playoffs.
