America's Army: CEVO Playoffs Round 3 & 4 Combo

By: Dave Munro - Published March 25, 2008 at 11:54 AM EST - Writer Archive
With 2 more rounds of CEVO playoffs complete I took the time to discuss how the matches went with several teams. In CEVO Pro the semi-finals between jCp and aud took place on WCSE, a map which had very diverse strats. In CEVO Amateur round 3 of the double elimination was also on WCSE and round 4 was on SF Sandstorm which can play both aggressive and passive, but requires good shooting and teamwork to win.
CEVO Professional Semi Finals - Weapons Cache SE

Audigy vs just Cause project

aud roster: jonny, mofo, proton, toby
jCP roster: dtraf, raf, stan, ruin

aud.Jonny's point of view:

Audigy|Jonny: we knew we were done for playing jcp on wcse
Audigy|Jonny: we expected many acts of faggotry
Audigy|Jonny: our match to win was against med
Audigy|Jonny: which would have taken us to the finals
fc.clean-: so you couldn't steal a round on assault in wcse?
Audigy|Jonny: we won the very first round on assault
Audigy|Jonny: probably should have won 2 others where we had early picks
Audigy|Jonny: but stans acts of faggotry took over as he had 14 kills on defense a lot by sitting in random spots
Audigy|Jonny: our defense wasnt that solid
Audigy|Jonny: we won the 1st two, but poor communication the the breaking of back offices caused us to not be able to win at tert
Audigy|Jonny: we usually have a solid tert camp
Audigy|Jonny: one of the 2n guys went on to say it was the best tert camp in the game after we beat them on wcse
Audigy|Jonny: the downfall in this match was the guy holding back offices got taken down, and jcp did a nice job on working the 2 doors on proton in the upper office
fc.clean-: did you consider camping in gay random spots too on D?
Audigy|Jonny: we scrimmed them a lot earlier in the season on wcse
Audigy|Jonny: so they know most of our gay camps

jCp.sTan's point of view:

-jCp.sTan..|E-REV: Coming to the match we were a little nerves knowing that we had already lost to this team 2 times this season, both times feeling we would win the match. This time we felt we had the right roster to counter the Solid Audigy team. They know when to be aggressive and they also know how to hold their ground. We had the gameplan to hold tert on def and make them either rush us at tert or milk the clock trying to secure every gay spot as they capture secondary and prime.
-jCp.sTan..|E-REV: The 1st round was not good at all. dTraf did not have the nade timed into the Shipping hall so that he could not get shot from behind as he moved into the tert hall, causing him to get shot within the first min of the match.
-jCp.sTan..|E-REV: This caused us to be 4v3 and led to a 1st round defeat on Defense
-jCp.sTan..|E-REV: Being WC SE we could not lose any more rounds being that it is a VERY defense sided map
-jCp.sTan..|E-REV: We kept our spirits high and were able to mix in a solid tert camp along with a few rounds that we had gayers
-jCp.sTan..|E-REV: after a few intense rounds that were in a way exausting we ended up winning the remaining rounds.
-jCp.sTan..|E-REV: As we switched to assault with the score 6-1 we only focused on winning 1 round to assure the tie.
-jCp.sTan..|E-REV: The 1st round they went with a prime hold that resulted in a 4v2 situation for us that only ended with MoFo getting a few quick picks because we didnt lay back long enough.
-jCp.sTan..|E-REV: They saw that a prime hold was not in their best interest so they switched to a tert hold
-jCp.sTan..|E-REV: This held to be a great idea because we got picked off 1 at a time not having very good comms and resulted in another loss causing the score to be pushed to 6-3
-jCp.sTan..|E-REV: Never getting down on ourselfs though we put a lot of emphisis on winning this next round
-jCp.sTan..|E-REV: They once again went with a tert hold but this time our pushes were solid
-jCp.sTan..|E-REV: everybody had a huge hand in winning the round and we had a sense of calm in vent because we knew we could not lose and would have at least OT in case we could not win anymore
-jCp.sTan..|E-REV: Now at 7-3 we maintained our confidence and ended up taking the next round with some great shots by dTraf
-jCp.sTan..|E-REV: We look foward to our Championship match against mNm and expect a very close match. Please tune in to e-rev.tv on Wednesday experience the CEVO-Pro finals .. it will be exciting

CEVO Amateur Playoff Round 3 - Weapons Cache SE

Unreasonable Ownage vs Even Flow

eFlow's Roster: terror, santa, commiekid, gillvic
U's Roster: pest, vicious, aligator, alkali

From Unreasonable Ownage's perspective:

Starting on defense, we began with a prime camp and easily held 'em off for a win. Next round we tried a secondary camp and once again, we held em off pretty handily. After winning another prime camp round, we switched things up a bit and called a tertiary camp, which ended up being a pretty bad idea. We won the round, but only because Alkali came up big with a 3v1 clutch. Not wanting to risk another round, we did a secondary camp next, and won. The rest of the rounds, we camped prime and took them relatively easily. On our last defense round, we fell apart a bit. During our prime camp, vicious pushed, picked one off, then ran back and got tked by alkali. Ali died at the ladder, and alkali followed suit. Pest was left in a 2v1 and couldn't clutch it. At the half, we were up 6-1.

On assault, eFlow ended up camping tertiary every round. Most rounds, we just pushed and got killed. In the second round, pest made it through and picked one off, and everyone else took advantage of the 4v3 by rushing and breaking through. We lost the next few, though we almost broke through a couple of times. In the game-winning round, pest distracted santa and commiekid while vicious pushed in lower-tertiary office and broke through, giving us the flank and relatively easy job of taking the rest of eFlow out.

eFlow's reasoning for the loss:

In talking with terror we didn't get into the details of the match, but the reason for their defeat was simple.

#eFlow.terror: roster changes and lack of prep as a full team

Final score: 8-5 U > eFlow

FightClub vs Knights of the Round Table

fc's roster: laz, split, lulu, wolf
knights roster: balla, jagger, snigbe, zigei

FightClub started on assault and started off very strong. They were able to counter whatever defense Knights threw at them, and took a 4-3 lead on into halftime. Switching to D, fc felt very comfortable with their 4-3 lead and played a Tert camp. Problem was they were too passive at S/R hall and were breached upstairs the first couple of rounds. Then they were breached downstairs and got it to a 2v1 at tert, but the solo Knights guy took out both fc guys with some bad timing. With their defense strategy getting slaughtered, probably a lot to do with not practicing enough. FightClub changed it up and kinda "pubbed" it after that, by pushing up and using prime as a fall back. The match ended up 7-7 and heading into OT. In OT, both teams adjusted their defenses perfectly and nobody could breach on assault until the 9th OT. So about 3.5 to 4 hours after the match started fc got an early 203 kill as Knights were setting up a prime camp, followed by a couple of nice picks coming up to prime and finally taking a round on assault to secure the win.
Final score: 8-7 fc > knights

IceNine vs Volatilis Infensus

vI requested from i9 to allow 1 of their 2 old school vI guys who happened to be online that night to play in the match. vI didn't expect to win with no prep at all, so at least with a 4th they could make the match more interesting. IceNine denied this request, so vI opted not to play as the clan only has 3 active members on the team all of which joined fightclub anyways.
Final score: FFW i9 > vI

NeFarious Gaming vs Elite Tactical Unit

Neither team is expected to go far in these playoffs, but both teams put up a solid defense until as they both went 6-1 on D. ETU finally broke NeF's Defense in OT one round and took the win in a minor upset. A good run for NeF finally came to an end.
Final score: 8-7 NeF < ETU

Dropouts vs Radiance

Expected to be MOTW or at least as good as eFlow vs U. Dropouts and Radiance are both excellent teams on Weapons Cache especially. I wasn't able to get a recap from either team. Dropouts were able to take 6 of the 7 rounds on Defense so they just needed 1 round on assault to secure at least a tie, or 2 rounds to win, but Radiance swept D to take the win. Dropouts disputed the match afterwards as Radiance is full of busted players (players who have been caught cheating in the past), but in the end nothing was detected.
Final score: 8-6 rad > drp

CEVO Amateur Playoff Round 4 - SF Sandstorm

Even Flow vs FightClub

fc's roster: laz, split, donthate, lulu
eFlow's roster: terror, commiekid, santa, randy

Even Flow did not have the roster they wanted to start this match and with u5.josh still on their roster they tried desperately to get him in, but he couldn't remember his CEVO login/pass. Subtle and gillvic were also unavailable to eFlow for this match. After 35 minutes of delaying fc got fed up and told eFlow to get started or forfeit. First round Even Flow started with 3 players and fc exchanged kills and took the round. Next round randy came in and he did very well going 8 and 2 over next 5 rounds, and Even Flow built a 4-2 lead. Terror clutched a 1v2 in this span too. FightClub won the next round to make it close at half. Commiekid then had a nice spam kill on split at central and eFlow took the round to make it 5-3. Comms got much better after that for fc and laz started to dominate which led fc to win the next 4 rounds and take a 7-5 lead with laz 19-5 up to that point. Including a 2v4 clutch by fc during that span of 4 rounds. Even Flow adjusted and were able to take out laz the next 2 rounds and quickly pick off other fc members to tie it up at 7-7. Another OT for fc, here we go. First round laz was a beast again and took out 3, and fc won the round easily. Next round laz got dropped but lulu got 1 before getting killed, and split/donthate took 1 each, then split/donthate pinched the last guy in a 2v1 for a bit, donthate took off to take the last objective while split kept terror busy. 2-0 in OT for fc which gave them the victory.
Final score: 8-7 fc > eFlow

IceNine vs Elite Tactical Unit

i9's roster: sani, whiz, haunter, myzery
ETU's roster: rampage, gen_ekcommander, bounty, nocturnal

To be honest ETU has had an easy road to get here. They had 5 forfeit wins in the season, and only played 1 playoff team in the 8 season matches, which they lost. In the playoffs they beat unR by forfeit, lost to Radiance 8-1, then beat NeFarious Gaming. Facing IceNine this time it wasn't looking promising. Sani of i9 dominated ETU and grabbed 12 kills before dieng once. ETU were only able to steal one round in the first half, then lost the first 2 after switching sides. IceNine showed they were the more skilled team and took this one easily.
Final score: 8-1 i9 > ETU

Unreasonable Ownage vs Radiance

U's roster: omegafox, tribalwolf, alkali, aligator
rad's roster: trapstar, swift, stk, xblade(or rka)

Unreasonable Ownage's recap:

Going in, Aligator and alkali were crying about how badly we were going to get raped. It took the fearless TribalWolf to rally the team to not give up hope. After losing the first round, coming back the second round with leaving TribalWolf into a 1v1 situation with swift. With Both of them on a stairwell TribalWolf took the leap of faith, charging from northern stairs of central over to the southern, he took fire, but ended up killing him sending it to the third round 1-1. Radiance took the next 2 rounds, however, the gang decided to kick it up a notch and come back the next 2 rounds pulling the match 3-3.
Then disaster struck. We switched sides. Remembering now, TribalWolf forgot to hit the apply button when changing it from 6 rounds to 7 before the match. After doing that, Radiance finally realized that the match time was wrong. It was set for 3 minutes instead of 4. After fixing the mistake, we rebooted the server, suicided back to the 3-3, and played out the rest under the correct time of 4 mins. Leading the half was Unreasonable Ownage 4-3.

After switching Unreasonable Ownage decided to keep to the basics, with it working out here and there, leading to some key rounds, which ending up being a blur of excitement and suspense as towards the end of being 6-6, but the Trimphant U gang pulled the last 2 rounds for the final score of 8-6.

Key notes are: The awsome job by the squad, pulling in together in the dire time of need, and gather 3 objectives when able to, and holding 2. On the downside, Bad job on Aligator for abondoning TribalWolf in his dire of need while you wandering around central instead of taking it. Losing that round. Other downside key notes, are the miserable times where they were able to 3 v 1 clutch us. SHAME!
Final score: 8-6 U > rad

After week 3 and 4 were all said and done, we had a few more teams eliminated from competition in these playoffs. Audigy was knocked out of the CEVO pro playoffs leaving Just Cause Project to play Mug 'N Mouse this Wednesday March 26th 8:30 CDT.

In the Amateur division, Rapid Aggression (Volatilis Infensus) was knocked out, NeFarious Gaming suffered their second loss in round 3 as well, Elite Tactical Unit finally got the boot after a decent run, and the biggest surprise was Even Flow getting popped back to back matches and thus eliminated as well (missing subtle was a big factor for them). Tuesday March 25th the last 4 teams in the losers bracket will face each other on Bridge SE which will bring us down to 2 teams who will battle on Insurgent Camp, with the eventual winner to face Unreasonable Ownage in the CEVO-a finals.
