America's Army: CEVO Tourney Round 2 Preview

By: Tim - Published June 24, 2008 at 10:31 PM EDT - Writer Archive
After multiple close calls in Week 1 of the CEVO "FREE"DOM Tournament, week 2 matches on Collapsed Tunnel are quickly approaching.
Here's a recap of how things went for the most of the Invite caliber teams in week 1 of the CEVO tournament. The quick recap was done by unholyyy, who also wrote a few lines about some of this week's matches.

Last week, Conviction won a close battle with Knights. With this win, Conviction advances to play Final Destination-i, who is coming off of a strong win against Audix in Week 1. Conviction has shown to be an up and coming team, despite some struggles early on in their first CAL-I season, and appear to be adapting quite well. Conviction had a convincing 10-2 win in TWL Inter League on Collapsed Tunnel.

IceNine, the perennial invite contender, was defeated by a challenging No Hesitation. Many predict nH to win CAL Main this season, and with a solid win over IceNine, these predictions would seem to be rather accurate. nH looks to go to 2-0 this week against Defining Stars, a team of relatively unknown players, as they are a Brazilian team, yet there is still that small chance of an upset. IceNine has a much easier opponent to face this week as they are set to duel against an unknown team who call themselves c0rrupted mindz.

In last week's MOTW, the top two teams in America's Army faced off. Rising Storm and Just Cause Project fought down to the wire making an exciting first round matchup. Rising Storm started off on assault and showed why they are the number two team in AA, by grabbing 3 rounds from jCp. Just Cause Project, however, showed exactly why they are the number one team, and battled back on this defensive map, ultimately resulting at both teams arriving at 7 rounds each forcing overtime. In OT, jCp started again on defense and took the first two rounds to give them the edge heading to assault. rS was not able to come back as jCp also took the first round on assault winning the match 10-7. This week, jCp plays the infamous team Adversity who recently added No_Ofy from Mug 'N Mouse. Meanwhile, Rising Storm faces yet another invite team in Dropouts who have been playing well this season in CAL at a respectable 3-2, losing only to the number 2 and 3 teams according to the recent Gotfrag Top 10. Both teams are fighting for survival, and both won their respective TWL Inters matches this week, so this match comes down to my MOTW.
