Once the round-robin was complete the seedings were determined, from these seedings the double elimination bracket was setup and the main tournament was ready to start. Round 1 Double Elimination Tourney The first map to be played was Headquarters Raid, which was picked from the pool of 12 maps chosen for the tournament. To recap the first round of the double elimination matches, most of the matches were lopsided as expected since it was started with 1 vs 16, 2 vs 15, 3 vs 14, etc. On top of that a lot of the weaker teams in the tournament had little to no experience on HQR and it showed. There was really only 2 matches which were close in this round, the 7 vs 10 and 8 vs 9 matchups. #8 Ataxia vs #9 IceNine v2 - MOTR This match was chosen to be the Match Of The Round = MOTR. It was casted on e-rev.tv by a member from 316 Gaming named LoneWolf. Ataxia picked assault first and since their original ringer (ra1n) went MIA, they were able to pick up a new ringer in v3.muzzl3. Zoink and muzz put on a show on assault, and picked up a bunch of killing in their route to a 5-2 half-time lead. That's a shocking number of rounds to take on such a defensive sided map. Although they took it very slow, Ataxia was able to take over the compound and push back i9 almost every round. After swapping sides IceNine was able to get into a groove on assault as they were able to take over the south side and sweep in for the flank. They managed to take 3 of the first 5 rounds on assault. Ataxia was finally able to hold off i9's assault and even though i9 got it down to a 2v2 again they weren't able to take out the last 2 guys. Final score 8-5 atx > i9v2 #7 FightClub vs #10 Elite Tactical Unit eTu's roster was 1 eTu member, plus 3 ringers. This young team faced against the oldest (I think) team in the LAN FightClub. eTu was having serious ping problems and kept dropping. The match delayed for close to 2 hours before it got going. fc was very aggravated at this point, which showed in their poor play. With good smoke rushes and good video setting eTu was able to take over the north side a few times and secured 3 rounds on assault. FightClub was ready to give up when swapping to assault. They managed to take one of the earlier rounds, but eTu's AR gunner prostyle found some good spots to hide north and was able to take out any pushers on that side almost every round, making it difficult for fc to find a way to take over the compound and release the prisoner. eTu prevailed as victors in the only upset of the first round. Final score 8-5 eTu > fc Summer '08 AA LAN Day 2 Round 1
Round 2 Double Elimination Tourney The second map chosen from the pool of maps was a LAN favorite Urban Assault. This would be the second time this map was played at the LAN. The bracket was now split into 8 teams in the upper bracket, and 8 teams in the lower bracket. The 8 teams in the lower bracket were now already all faced with their last lifeline, a loss would eliminate them from the competition. #1 just Cause project vs #6 jCp :: Okay - MOTR This match was chosen as the MOTR in the second round and was casted by Chris "worldf" Gentry. He was sitting out the fc match so he volunteered to cast the jCp vs jCp urban match. jCp's #1 squad showed they were the better foursome as they straight dominated the #2 squad by a score of 8-1. The match cast will soon be in the e-rev.tv archives available for download. #3 IceNine vs #5 Animus This match was expected to be very close as Animus finished #2 in the CPL LAN and IceNine finished #3. The problem for Animus was their 4th wasn't able to attend the LAN, and their ringer starting to show weakness. I think he may have been shutout in this match. IceNine took advantage of this weak link and won the match relatively easily. The score may have been 8-3, but that's just a guess. In the lower bracket there wasn't really any feature matches, but the results are shown in the scoreboards below. Summer '08 AA LAN D2 R2 Upper
