America's Army: Top 10 Players Poll (Fall 2008 Edition)

By: Nicholas Huber - Published September 24, 2008 at 10:41 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Various Invite-caliber players were asked to list their peers in order of overall in-game contribution they provide to their team. This includes shooting ability, intelligence of play, communication skills, and various other factors. The following is the resulting rankings.

It's been a year since the last vote on the Top 10 Players list, so it's about time to do it again right? As always, we hope that the various invite players that voted kept their lists unbiased, but as always, that cannot be 100%.

 About the points system

Taken straight from Dave "Mr.Clean" Munro: "The ranking is determined via a point system similar to grand prix. It's a pretty simple calculation: 1st place vote = 20 points, 2=16, 3=12, 4=9, 5=6, 6=5, 7=4, 8=3, 9=2, 10=1. I was able to obtain votes from most of the CAL invite and CAL main teams. Representative teams spanned across the leagues from CAL-M to CAL-O and even league representatives participated."

Pollsters Speak Out

"Jonny and Chris are are definitely the top players with them carrying their team most the time. When Logan actually plays the game, he's one of the best I've seen. sTan is one of those players that does his own thing and does it very well. Epic does good when he actually tries. Rabb is, well, Rabb. dTraf is a very smart player with a natural shot. RaF rapes, well, because he makes the enemy push him. scarface has and always will be one of the top players. Just outside I think should be ru1n. When he plays, I think he has the best shot in the game."  - banana_gun

"The list looks like it pretty much hits the top 10 players in the game; however, the order could be shuffled a bit ." - chrones

"Coming up with player rankings is a lot more difficult than doing the same with teams. Certain players bring more to the table than just straight shooting ability, which is not easy to judge. Ability to bait the enemy, ability to double-team enemies, ability to work with your remaining teammates to secure objectives, ability to clutch in tough situations. These factors are all part of the equation when judging players aside from just straight shooting ability, and aren't easy to judge. Honestly, a player top 10 often becomes a popularity vote and isn't all that accurate. At least looking at the top 10 that we came up with, we probably got most of the right players, just not necessarily in the right order. Truthfully sTan and chrones should be the top 2 from what I've seen. Both are LAN proven and came up with clutches time and time again. It's good to see RaF made the list too, if he played a little more we could be top 5 or even top 3, but that could be said about a lot of players that didn't even make the top 10." - mr.clean
