CAL's Main division kicks off it's first week of regular play on Pipeline!
GotFrag will be covering this season with up to date news and predictions. It will be up to the readers to show the GotFrag staff if they would like this weekly column to be switched to our new CAL-I prediction format. Until then, GotFrag's Nic "Karmakaze" Huber will be giving his sole take on predictions. This week's match will be played on competition favorite Pipeline.
IcoNic vs. Final Destination-M
Final Destination has been known for their activity problems. Sexy actually left the team, leaving with team with actually only four players, about a week ago. According to CAL's rules, for the team to be left in an active state and to compete, they must have 5 players on the roster. Assuming that the CAL Admins will leave the team in their active state, I really don't see them competing or even showing up a lot this season. IcoNic died a few weeks ago, and Crucial Gaming quickly filled their roster. After talking to Streaker, it seems apparently easy to get into the Main division. "We are bad. Predict us last," Streaker said. I'm still predicting IcoNic's win over Final Destination-M.
misChief vs. Team.ess^
MisChief is a an old team that originally competed at the CAL-I level against teams like Red Dawn, Rising Storm, and the likes. If they are taking this comeback seriously and do well, they could set the example for other teams to make their comeback. Team.ess^ is a team that I know nothing about. After talking with Noah Ballard, the head of CAL-O, the team had a fail merge with IcoNic. When the team died, Team.ess^ reemerged. MisChief will come out on top this one, mainly due to experience.
Animus vs. Fight Club
Animus, formerly goingLive, has the accomplishments of winning 2nd at CPL 2007 and winning 7th at the ChiLAN. They will be competing this season with the hopes of making it into Invite. They are also one of the only teams left that still ask for scrims almost all day long. Fight Club is always that team that you normally don’t hear a lot about, but they still do rather well in competition. They merged with vI a few seasons ago to up both team’s activity level. Both these teams will be very successful this season and will probably both make it into the playoffs. That being said, Animus will come out on top in their battle against Fight Club.
36 Chambers vs. Si-Gaming
36 Chambers is the team made up of aadrama regulars. Most of the roster doesn’t even have the game installed. Led by aadrama’s head Administrator, hobo, the team wanted to stay on the Open level, but they were moved up to Main. Si-Gaming originally was set to face Disturbing the Peace, but they have recently split ways due to activity. The team was originally proCore, but due to harboring cheaters, their sponsorship fell through. Last season, the team placed 3rd in CAL-O. I wasn’t aware that a 3rd place finish was really Main-caliber, but I’ve heard that they should do fairly well as long as they stay active. They’ll win against 36 Chambers, but that is no surprise; however, if 36 Chambers manages to show up, they put up a good fight.
Non-Sense vs. Version 3-M
Non-Sense originally started out as ETU, and in AGC, they made it to the Elite Forces Finals. When the team changed their name to eXg , the team made CEVO-A’s playoffs. Now the team has changed their name again and made some pickups of previous dTp and Si-Gaming players. Version 3 is yet another team that I know nothing about. We’ll see how they match up this season. Maybe I’ll have something to say on them next week.
Unreasonable Ownage vs. The Knights of the Round Table
Unreasonable Ownage won 4th place at the ChiLAN, along with other distinguishable accomplishments. They are back and wanting to get back into the competitive swing of things. They should do well this season and possibly making the top 4. The Knights of the Round Table are one of the oldest teams in the game with both an EU and NA division; however, they aren’t that active, or so I have read. Unreasonable Ownage will come out on top by 1 or 2.
