America's Army: GotFrag Predictions: TWL-Inters Week 5

By: Chris Sansone - Published November 14, 2008 at 3:34 PM EST - Writer Archive
Three weeks and 2 undefeated teams remain as the teams of TWL Invites face off on the community wide favorite, Pipeline.

T-W-L! When those three letters are seen or heard by any America's Army player one thing immediately comes to mind, the longest lasting competitive league this game has seen. However, this season of TWL has not exactly been an active one which can clearly be seen by the mere nine remaining teams in the leagues highest division, the Intermediate Division. To add more icing on the cake, word around the community is that one of the nine remaining teams, No Excuses, may have called it quits, but this has yet to be confirmed. Dead or not, GotFrag is here to bring you predictions as these teams face off on one of the maps that is so popular that recent news revealed it will be remade and included in the new version 3.0. (Read article here)

A community favorite for several seasons, Pipeline boasts a close quarters combat map with several entrances and several objectives. In order for the assaulting team to have any chance of winning they must mix it up a bit and keep the defense thinking. Pipeline was traditionally a defense sided map but with some adjustments made a few patches ago we tend to see that trend decreasing. In order for the assaulting team to secure either all 3 of the valves (primary, secondary, and exterior) or take the main control panel they will need some creative strats, so a lot of teamwork is in order.

I tried to get a few unbiased predictions this week and choose people whose teams do not participate in TWL or have a BYE, so along side me making predictions this week is Noah "Substance" Ballard from Animus and $corp!an from Crucial Gaming.

Fight Club vs. Audigy

Judging from the past few weeks and my personal experiences against FightClub, they have definitely turned it up a notch compared to the past few seasons. With a few pickups and the return of some of the old FightClub players it looks like this team can very well be playoff contenders. Audigy on the other hand is well...Audigy. They have the skill to just show up to this match with no practice and take home the win which could very well be likely in this situation depending on who plays for them. I guess we will just have to wait until match time to see what roster is fielded.

If Audigy fields a try-hard roster then they will win. However, something tells me they wont, so I will take FightClub.

     8-6

Audigy will trounce on FightClub because, well just because.

I have never really seen FightClub field a consistent roster nor do they scrim or practice that much. Audigy should win this match without any problem if they field 4.

       9-5.

IceNine vs. Version 3-Inters

Version 3 has decided to split their team into "two teams", one which participates in Open, and the other that will face IceNine this week on Pipeline. Both the Intermediate and Open teams are doing exceptionally well and possibly exceeding their expectations. The Intermediate team's only loss is to the undefeated Mediocrity last week on Mout McKenna, so this team is definitely capable of hanging with the big dogs. IceNine is have a pretty bad season compared to how well they did this previous season but this is mainly due to activity issues. However, the foreseeable future looks promising as IceNine has acquired two members from No Excuses, Xtopherus and Unknown. A few weeks ago Version 3 looked like they were going to sneak away with the possible "upset win" and possibly a forfeit win, but within the past few things that situation has changed and a win for v3 doesn't look too promising.

If you asked me a few weeks ago who would win this match I would have said v3, but the tides have changed. I am going with IceNine.

       9-5

IceNine will beat v3 simply because of their two new pickups, xtr and unknown.

Both the teams are putting in considerable effort scrimming and practicing. This match will be a close one, but I will go with IceNine. <3 Maynard!

Inevitable Defeat vs. No Excuses

As stated earlier, rumor has it that several members of No Excuses have decided to hang up the towel, but again this has yet to be confirmed. Assuming the rumors that we hear are true, Inevitable Defeat (formerly Unreasonable Ownage) may be receiving a forfeit win this week. On the other hand if the rumors are indeed false, then this will shape up to be one incredible matchup. If No Excuses does decide to show up, Inevitable Defeat may find themselves in a dog fight and this is mainly due to the fact that two of the TWL starters have recently been suspended. Alkali and tMar found themselves suspended last week after it was found that a member of theirs (oMi) was evading a TWL ban and was on the roster. Losing two of their key players may play a role in the outcome of this match, but again we will have to wait and see if No Excuses even shows up.

iD still has a few pretty good players without alkali and tMar and I believe they can pull this off even without a FFW. Ill take iD 8-6 or FFW.

Inevitable Defeat won't win because their cheaters cant play TWL, but if No Excuses really is dead, they'll end up getting a FFW.

I am not sure if No Excuses is still active and will even show up for the match. If they are still active and field the right 4 they would win this. It looks to me though ID gets a FFW!

overRated vs. Mediocrity

The battle of the undefeated! After Monday night there will remain only one undefeated team in this seasons Intermediate league. Mediocrity has only played two matches this season thus far and the other three wins come from forfeit wins, so they have not really been put to the test. Similarly, overRated has one more match under their belt this season, playing a total of three and the other two matches were forfeit wins. These two teams have a history over the past few months to a year and have quite the rivalry going, so this should make for an interesting matchup. It is no secret that Pipeline is not Mediocrity's strong map as can be seen by their track record. None the less, overRated is not exactly in try-hard mode and basically only shows up for matches which may give Mediocrity the advantage. Once again we will have to see how this interesting match unfolds.

This match could go either way depending on how my team plays, but lets be real here, we are awful at Pipe. I am going to go with overRated 8-6.

overRated will beat Mediocrity because Chris chokes on Pipeline.

This will definitely be the MOTW and could go either way. Considering that overRated doesn't scrim and prep as much as Mediocrity, I would go with Mediocrity on this one 8-6. Go Chris!

Note: Crucial Gaming has received a BYE this week.
