America's Army: GotFrag Predictions: CAL-I Week 5

By: Louis Brill - Published November 19, 2008 at 11:21 PM EST - Writer Archive
Bridge SE returns to CAL's Invite division as GotFrag's staff and a guest will give their predictions for CAL-I Week 5!

GotFrag has been catering to the America's Army community since April 2007. You, the community have spoken to make GotFrag a more informative and enjoyable news outlet to cover America's Army. As a result of our recent feedback, we have expanded our productivity by hiring new writers and making public any and all leaked information from America's Army 3.0! Stay tuned as GotFrag continues it's stirring coverage of the CAL-Main and Invite leagues!

Last week, teams clashed on Weapons Cache. This week, things will be toned down a notch. Players will transition from the intense close quarters combat from last week and into the serene, snowy setting of Bridge SE. Although arguably a competition map, many players still like Bridge SE. The Assault team's objective is to reach a truck entrenched deep into the Defense spawn point. Even though objective may seem out of reach, the Assault's Grenadier forces the Defending team to spread out and cover the objective from hilly areas. The Defending team may seem to have the advantage, but the Assault team should never be underestimated especially with 5 minutes at their disposal and 4 main locations to catch the Defending team off guard. (Bridge, Ridge, Catwalks, and Under Bridge.)

On a side note, it always seems hilarious when a player practices 203/AR spam a bit too much! We could possibly see some across-map dropshots and AR rounds acting as artillery. Is Bridge SE a map of skill, a test of patience, or a battle of who has the best tweaks? Perhaps it's all of those things. Unfortunately, this week will only have 2 matchups due to nOEx dying and No Said Date having a BYE. Some players think of this as a convenience for only 2 matchups to occur on such a disliked map.

This week we will have 2 guest predictors as opposed to the regular one guest predictor. Louis "CommieKid" Brill joined by Derek "Metalus" Seifert and Aaron "wh!z" Townshend bring you our CAL-Invite week 5 predictions.

Mediocrity! Vs. Sultan Zeratul's Army (iNNo)

Many players suspect that Mediocrity will not try for this match and will hand over the win to Sultan Zeratul's Army. This could be the case, but Mediocrity is a team that has a strong long range and close quarters roster. If Chris decides to field Spanker, Himself, Metalus, and Bama,  they could dismantle Zeratul's Army or make this a very close match. Since Mediocrity picked up 3 former Conviction members, their long range success has improved. On the other hand, there is no doubt in anyone's mind that Zeratul will fight to the death here. If Zeratul fields his European warriors, it is expected that his Army will use static and patient behavior (widely known to the community as "faggotry")  that will give them the edge to oust Mediocrity.

This is a really hard match to predict, but since Chris body slammed me on this map twice I'll give Mediocrity the benefit of the doubt.

   8-6 med!

I’m expecting a good match if the Sultans Army brings their care steins. Depending on the ratio of Euros and considering their proning around with flashes will come to no avail on this map, the exact score will be hard to determine. When this match is played the latency will be so great and build over the two hours it will take to play this frigid shitty snow map. It will cause the internets to slowly lag out preventing anyone from finishing.

Med doesn't seem to have much interest (if any) in playing BSE. So my bet is that Zeratul's army of ringers will win this one without too much of a contest.

IceNine Vs. Just Cause Project

IceNine caused a huge upset last week by defeating No Said Date on Weapons Cache. Although coming off a huge and unexpected win, they really haven't been practicing much. IceNine like Just Cause Project have always been good on Bridge SE. IceNine should be able to hold the fort, but there is no telling who will win since IceNine may be subject to unforseen strategies from jCp. jCp has seen success with dTraf precisely knowing when and where to shoot a 203, so watch out for him as he is deadly with that weapon. If both teams practice and show up with their starting lineups, this will be a match made in heaven.

IceNine destroys on Bridge SE, but then again, so does jCp. IceNine upset No Said Date last week, and they have proven that they belong in Invites. This match is so unpredictable it might even go to overtime. IceNine could previal, so i'll give them the win.

Bridge Assault Edición Especial being the epitome of America's Army one sided maps makes this match impossible to predict. Considering the inclination of one side warriroing due to time and boredom constraints. Not something I would expect even the tryhardiest teams in AA left to grind out the last rounds. I have JCP taking the victory in a would be close match, given their ability uniform their assaults is key in this map.
Both teams will have D-Locked down, but I see JCP overwhelming i9 at least twice on assault for the win.

(8-6 jCp)

I don’t think that IceNine will be able to put in nearly enough hours to take this match. jCp takes the win even though i9 tries VERY hard.

No Excuses Vs. Audigy

nOEx is now officially dead and missed their chances of making the playoffs. They have enough players on their roster, but they will not come back to life especially if they have to play Bridge SE. As a GotFrag writer I am obligated to predict teams that still have rostered players. Karmakaze and I will be predicting for this match.

Audigy will receive the forfeit win. The chance that nOEx will show up for this match is slim to none.

Obviously, No Excuses has called it quits, with some members going to i9. Instruments of Audigy would have taken this win even without the FFW.
