Unfortunate events concerning CAL recently, with the dropping of three teams that no longer had the will to compete and the rather unexpected reformation of members from Team Pure into a new squad named "Fadeight" Recently, two top CAL-Main teams in TGBF: Project Vile and Team HOT as well as a top 10 team in Redemption all announced their decision to pull out of CAL this season. Team HOT announced that they, like top European team Code7, are simply burned out from constant practice and competing at such a high level. They made it clear that they will not be returning any time soon, but will instead wait for the highly anticipated Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. Team HOT declared their retirement in a thread on the CAL forums that can be found here. TGBF: Project Vile on the other hand decided to drop CAL due to a recent agreement between the CPL and GotFrag in regards to shoutcasting - a deal that also applies to CAL coverage. Their official statement on the CAL forums can be found here The last team, Redemption, decided to drop out of CAL due to roster issues and a serious lack of dedication to the game. Many of their players appear to be finding new teams however, and they should make a great impact in whichever squads pick them up. As soon as all these changes were made, World Klass Assassins decided to drop down to Open and the former Team Pure came together with a few additional members to form a new powerful squad in Fadeight. CAL is now down to 14 teams in Main that are actively competing, but rumor has it that the once very powerful Warchild may be considering taking a break as well. With CAL-Main losing serious competition - including who many considered to possibly be the final two at the end of the season in Team HOT and TGBF: Project Vile - is this a sign that BF2 is dying, and dying fast? Only time will tell for sure, but many are expecting - including myself - for this to be the last seriously competitive season of CAL and the lack of a Main division next season. |
