okay, basically, I'm on a network, and when the other person on my network browses the web, I get huge lag spikes, up to 500 ping for about 4 seconds while the web page loads. I used to use IE and it was even worse, but now I use Firefox, and it was okay for a month or so and now it's back to how it was.. I was wondering if there is a way to turn the detail down of what you're browsing so it doesn't lag up to like 500 ping while I'm playing..
Fernando I used too get that, with my old isp talktalk. Im with aol now and its not as bad. Only goes up too 120, whilst streaming it can reach 300 plus.
Maby its isp related? sorry if I can't be anymore help mate.
it's about the browsing, i've made sure of that... It's about pictures loading.. I just need a setting that can make it less detail, or store pictures for future reference....
I turned pictures off completely and there was NO spikes.. but that makes websites unviewable so.
Try going into your router and limit the rate at which anyone else on your network can download - you can often do that by network IPs. Just make sure you don't do it to your own one :)
Net Limiter works quite well, but each client has to have the net limiter client installed and configured correctly on it.
#8 is on the cue as far that central distribution is concerned. totally depends on the hardware you are running as to whether or not you can limit with the router/switch.
It's a simple case of too much demand, and not enough bandwidth. Regardless of the amount of bandwidth you are using, your switches ability to route traffic quickly over TCP/IP can vary depending on the quality of the hardware.

If you router supports QoS, try messing with those settings. I used to have a wireless connection that only supported 512 down and 128 up, which is worthless if anyone else is even browsing the internet. What I did was install DD-WRT on my Linksys WRT54G, which adds QoS support. Then limit your local peer bandwidth in the QoS settings. Worked well for me, but my roommate was pretty unhappy.
yeah, limit other PCs bandwidth, they're STEALING UR INTERNETS!
seriously, try what #9 said about net limiter. I haven't heard about it but it sounds like what you need.
what rate does your net run at? what speed does it say in the internet gateway on network connections in control panel, and what can you download at? and what is your upload?
I really doubt your roommate is going to let you install an application like Net Limiter on his computer to lower his throughput. I was going to use Net Limiter but my roommate wouldn't let me install it on his PC, and I didn't wanna just do it, that's why I used DD-WRT. But, if he does, thats probably your 'easiest' solution.
lag spikes

are you on wireless? if so, is it B, G or N?
I just need a setting to lower firefoxs detail.. or minimize the amount of things to load.. simple question =[
This limits every1 else to just basic web content. Worked for me.

Or, you could try lowering his max half-open connection limit.

Of course, you would have to install it on his computer.
