Getting error message, cleaned registry keys and data. Have reinstalled it once and all looking good, installed the 1.4 and 1.5 patches from www.gamershell.com and said done.

then loaded up cod4 multiplay and get long error message. opens up then screen goes black and get this first

"iw3mp.exe has stopped working"

then next one

"iw3mp.exe has stopped working"

"A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

really need this sorted, decent pc with some good specs and deff better than my old one. was told from pc world that is fine for gaming and will work well. speed is fine and everything else, just cod4.

Try running CoD4 in XP compatibilty mode. I doubt this will make a difference seeing as LOTS of people play CoD4 is Vista (including myself) fine from stock, but give it a go:

Right click iw3mp.exe > properties > compatibility > run this program in compatibilty mode for Windows XP Service Pack 2. Microsoft haven't made a compatibilty mode for XP SP3 yet, so don't worry about that.

See if that gives you any joy. Peace.

I would seriously consider downloading a copy of the game from a torrent, and install it from that.
Might be worth a try anyway. Can't think of anything in particular that would cause it to do what it's doing.

what are your specs? this caused me to worry:

'was told from pc world that is fine for gaming and will work well.'

they can and do lie, so giving us your specs would help.

#6 has it. I had a problem back in cod1 when one of my installation disks became corrupt, so I just torrented the game, used my own cd-key, and it worked like a charm. If that doesn't work for you, take it back to PC world and tell them to sort it because it's still under warranty and you want it to work properly for cod4.

that was one of the most useless comments i have ever seen #2.

ontopic: it's a common problem and my friend had that problem. he solved it by reinstalling, and then installing patch after patch (1.1, 1,2 1,3 etc etc...) and finally got it working.

I had a friend that had that problem. For some reason he couldn't install from the DVD cause he would get an error stating that the files couldn't be read. I told him to try and copy all the files from the DVD to his HDD, then run the installer from there. He did, and it worked.

intel celeron
512mb ram
60gb hd
6200 geforce
1 fan

this pc

intel core 2 duo
3gb ram
350gb hd
7050 geforce
4 fans
vista home premium

and still lower fps than old pc im on like 20-30 on this!!

but on my nvidia cpanel on this pc it like set all settings to high/quality and when i try changing them to performance and low and the click apply and reopen to check they all go back this is what i think is the problem.

No wonder Cod4 wont start :D

Basically, you need a graphics card to replace that dire onboard otherwise you will continue to have poor fps. Your processor is more than enough to run Cod4.

I suggest this card: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct..

You will hit 250 fps no problems.

well im 16 and hardly have any money so cant be much, need a graphics card that will support cod4 at 70fps constant. please be sensible with the prices also i have another problem, read this...

Just noticed that I have my Nvidia Control Panel and I went in and noticed that all my settings are set to high and quality and on my old pc they were set to performance and on lowest. I have set them all to low and performance settings and clicked apply but they dont stay, soon as i reopen the Cpanel, the settings are back to what they were. Im sure if i get these on low then I will be in with some more fps.

Just downloaded the CPU-Z and got the following results for my PC, there is more information from CPU-Z if you need more then I will put it in..

CPU (Processor)
Name: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40Ghz
Package: Socket 775 LGA

MainBoard Tab
Manufacturer: Packard Bell BV
Model: MCP73VT-PM

Memory
Type: DDR2
Channels: Single
Amount: 3GB

I'm aiming at a price range of £60 as I can this in a couple of weeks and get gaming really soon, as I am really bored doing nothing. Thanks for all support and help in advance.

Are you 100% sure that will be working with my PC and will fit with no problems and wont have to pay for anything else for it to work with this motherboard??

Never installed a graphics card before and vista really new to me so is there a guide out there or a step by step you can write up to install the card, were it goes on motherboard, how it all fixes and any extras. Just so I dont have to pay for some geek to come and do it for me and be charged :)

Thanks..
