Phill Palmer recaps the first game of the day between Speedlink and H2K on Burgundy at the EuroCup XV LAN finals in Enschede, Holland. ![]()
H2K started as Allies on Burgundy, usually considered the easier side, but quickly got themselves into trouble. Speedlink took the first round with ease, showing us one of their two defensive strategies. With the smoke dropped at the middle tank they quickly pushed the back with Kickzz on shotgun dropping a couple of frags in quick succession. The rest of the team mop up the remaining H2K squad giving their Dutch opponents a taste of what was to come. Now facing a 6-0 deficit, H2K needed to change something and they decided to switch to a slow A push that turned into a 4v1 situation with Nightwalker left standing. He managed to take down two Allies but eventually was taken down. H2k finally made it onto the scoreboard at 6-1. With momentum now somewhat in their favor, H2K took the next round and looked like they are going to make a game out of it. Nightwalker put a stop to this run with three big unscoped shots as he held the B bombsite single-handedly against the onrushing H2k players. Both sides traded rounds until the half time break, leaving the German Speedlink side going onto Allies with a commanding 10-5 lead. H2K used similar strategies to Speedlink with a quick push around the back and a number of players crossing into the mid street and rushing the APC. H2k picked up one early round but Speedlink's offensive power was too much for the Dutch side to contain. Mitox called a pause with the score at 12-6 in favor of Speedlink and after a brief pause to fix the Belgian player's headset, the game continued. Fresh from their cigarette break, Speedlink started as the better of the two sides after the pause and punished H2k ruthlessly. The Germans took the next four rounds with ease with a combination of quick B plants and a full rush straight down the main street in behind the H2K squad. A final score of 16-6 was a fair representation of the play and despite Qwerty's phenomenal personal performance, Speedlink and Trigger were a class apart today. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
