Call Of Duty: Crossfire cancel CDC3 CoD2 tournament

With a significant decline in interest ahead of the release of Call of Duty 4, Crossfire and Devotii have decided to cancel the official CDC3 CoD2 tournament.
Despite the fact that teams such as Tek-9, H2k.Qpad and eSuba had all confirmed their attendance, it was felt that by November there would be no demand for another Call of Duty 2 tournament. Previous Crossfire events have been very popular and the news that they are planning an early event for CoD4 should come as some consolation to disappointed teams. The CoD4 event, tentatively scheduled for January 2008, will be held in the recently revamped WZZRD Enschede gaming cafe in the Netherlands.

For teams still interested in attending, there will be a smaller CoD2 competition run alongside the RTCW tournament at CDC3 on the same dates as before. While the sponsored prize purse will no longer be on offer, Crossfire have promised to put all money earned from CoD2 entry fees directly back into the prize pot. Teams wishing to attend should contact Tosspot as soon as possible.

Devotii have also announced the cancellation of their Fnatic GameIdol tournament which was planned to conclude at CDC3. Teams who had qualified for the LAN finals will be compensated with €100 and a similar tournament is scheduled for Call of Duty 4. This announcement in particular is likely to draw criticism from the teams who played out the group stages and the €20 per player compensation is unlikely to satisfy them.

Crossfire director Stuart "TosspoT" Saw broke the news on Crossfire.nu.
"When we first planned this event back in April, CoD4 was a distant spec on the radar. There was no public knowledge that CoD4 was due this winter and when as soon as the news broke, the sharp decline in activity forced us into action.

Both Crossfire and our title sponsor Devotii both fully believe in the Call of Duty community and are sure that come CoD4 the scene will pickup and be successful and for that reason rather than beating a dead horse in November, we'd rather feed a healthy young horse with an event in January"

Andrew Taylor also made a statement on behalf of Devotii.
"Due to the large number of clans moving away from CoD2 in preparation for the CoD4 launch the LAN finals for the Game Idol tournament has been canceled due to a lack of interest. The CoD2 Game Idol tournament will be re-launched as a CoD4 tournament early in the new year and the same prizes will be up for grabs as clans compete for the right to be called "fnatic".

The 8 clans who are missing out on the finals of the CoD2 Game Idol Tournament will be awarded with 100 Euros each and our sincere apologies that the tournament has been put on hold. They will also be guaranteed entry into the CoD4 competition.

Once again we would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused and we look forward to the COD4 tournament in the new year."

Teams wishing to avail of a refund are requested to contact Tosspot via email (tosspot at gmail dot com).
