Call Of Duty: EG's Dunn Interviewed

GotFrag's Liam Crowley sits down with Brian Dunn, team manager for the Evil Geniuses Call of Duty 4 squad at i33.

With a resume featuring work at GotFrag, SK and Complexity, Brian Dunn has had perhaps more than his fair share of experience in the field of esports. This weekend he tries his hand at team management as he takes charge of Evil Geniuses in the i33 Call of Duty 4 tournament.

The 20 year old from Virgnia Beach, USA admits he has little Call of Duty experience but clearly understands the significance of the challenge that lies ahead of North America's sole representatives at the prestigious European event.

- Our expectation for every tournament is a first place finish, but given the circumstances they're playing under we know that's far from guaranteed. I'd be fairly happy just to come out of the event having proved to all of Europe that North American CoD teams should be taken just as seriously as any other top team in the world.

And what will it take to do this?

- I don't know that it will be a specific placing necessarily, but more so certain teams that we'll either need to beat, or at the very least give a very good run for their money. Based on the seeds I would think we will break top five if we've taken down any of the highly respected teams, but I haven't seen the bracket so I'm not sure what exact opportunities the team will have. If I really had to pick a placing that would make Intel and Razer happy, I'd probably just go with the standard top three placing that would bring home a medal to North America.

EG will not only have to play on European soil, however, they will also have to play using European rules. The removal of Deep Impact and multibomb are perhaps the most obvious changes and Dunn explains how the team has been coping with this.
rob-wiz will be key for EG at i33

- Since none of the teams over here play in any leagues that use the European rulesets, it's kind of a unique situation. After NERV LAN some of the other teams offered to help our guys practice using the changes, since they all want Team EG to represent North America well, but it's still not the same as actually using the ruleset on a regular basis. They've tried to gather some demos of the top teams too of course, and they're pretty good at studying demos so I think we'll be more prepared than some people are assuming. It's still obviously home turf for the Euros. It's hard to truly say how much impact that has, whether it be purely mental or something substantial, but we definitely won't be using it as an excuse.

Experience is certainly not a commodity this EG squad is lacking. In the short time they have been playing Call of Duty 4, EG have gone from struggling to qualify for CEVO-P to taking down Pandemic at NERV LAN and establishing themselves as serious contenders for the top spot in North America.
