mp_vacant is home of the CEVO-Professional upper bracket finals between Team Pandemic and their LAN rivals, Guardians. I suppose it’s only appropriate that the upper bracket finals be a preview of the eventual grand championship finals. It is just too bad that the match has to be decided on a map like mp_vacant, but that’s the way it works this time around. Regardless, I expect to see both teams well prepared and playing their best in an effort to guarantee at least $1500. Pandemic comes into this match-up looking better than ever. They finished out the regular season strong earning the number one seed, had a first round bye, and then delivered a 13-3 beating to MoB in round two. Guardians have been similarly successful recently and turned their season completely around in the late goings after starting off 0-2. They entered playoffs as the fifth seed and carried out a 13-8 round one demolition of the recently roster renovated Team EG. mp_vacant was not a strong point for either club over the season. Yes, Guardians and Pandemic are a combined 4-0 on the map, but you can rest assured they’d both prefer to be matching elsewhere. This is what we’re stuck with and the teams realize that, or at least Nabore realizes that. If you wake up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night and, out of habit, check your Xfire, there you will see him, alone in the server. At first glance mp_vacant appears to be controlled by specops pushes into bathrooms and superior defensive play at the A bombsite but that is just not the case. Any top competitive mp_vacant denizen can tell you that it is the nades dropping in through ceiling openings, the prefires from outside the A hangar, and that guy who peeks cabinets at just the right time every round that will set a team off balance. I fully expect Guardians to make this a close and exciting game due in large part to the strength of their team and even more so to their ability to show up huge in pressure situations. That said, there’s hardly a shortage of either condition over at Team Pandemic and they have the added insurance of better nades and more coordinated flanks. Ought to be a fun one.
