Update:Registration has been extended until the 12th. With so many last minutes signups, and since the gamebattles signup system is new to everyone, we've decided to tack on one more week to give everyone who wants to play a chance.

GotFrag is excited to announce our Call of Duty 4 PC tournament, hosted by GameBattles. As you may know, GotFrag considered changing to CoD5 with the impending release and indecisiveness of the community. After much deliberation and coming to the realization that CoD5 was not ready for competition on this level, GotFrag will be following the general consensus of the CoD community and hosting CoD4 this time around. You get what you want!

Along with that change, we have made several other small changes in response to community feedback, and in order to streamline the event. We understand what this community wants, and we are here to bring it to you, unforced. With that being said, the ladder portion proposed for the original CoD4 event has been completely removed in favor of a straight forward, 32 team - double elimination bracket tournament.

As far as competitive mods are concerned, we understand that this issue still has not been completely ironed out by the community. We have seen that a considerable percentage of you prefer DAMN mod, and with the continued direct support of its developer, we believe it is the best choice for this particular event.

Everyone can participate, so whether you are a seasoned pro or an aspiring newbie, take a shot and sign up!

For those wishing to sign up and pay for an entire team (manager etc), When a leader creates a team, they then have the option to invite new members. When inviting, they also have the option to pay for the player's entry themselves, or require that the new member pay for the registration fee.

I love that we are getting a tourney...

$13 a player * 5 players * 32 teams = $2,080

Payout = 1,000 + 500 + 250 = $1,750

This is a completely understandable amount to take out of the pot.

BUT....how many teams are only going to have 5 players registered? Most teams will have...lets say 7. Yes I know there are teams that won't, but the average team is going to have more than 5 people on their rosters.

SOOOO..

13 per player * 7 players * 32 teams = $2,912

Now dishing out $1750 / $2912 is not too fair. That's keeping 40% of the money that came in for the tourney...

Should be a base TEAM fee, not per player signing up. Then limit teams to say 8 people.

You people need to understand how businesses work and that people need to be paid for putting in effort to code part of a site, perform media and coverage, admin the tournament, co-ordinate with possible sponsors, and so on. With that said I wouldnt be surprised if they up the prize values if they get more than their projected monetary value required to hold the current prize amount.

I completely understand that business is business and at the end of the day you need to put food on the table. It's Gotfrag...please don't tell me that a server company isn't all over them to sponsor this event (that's one cost gone). Admins...I'm sure there are people that are willing to help for free...(another cost gone). Finally...the webspace and website coding....yes that will cost money and is not free. I understand that they NEED to take some of the incoming money to fund the operations and such.

But I think it is fair to say that the average team will have 7 or 8 people on their roster...which leads to them taking 40% of the money!!! We complain about Nerv taking 30% ??? That is a place they actually have to pay for rent, electricity, staff(gotfrag too), computers, etc.

I'm not saying I won't join, just trying to make a point that it is over the top.

The maps will be selected by teams prior to each match. The high seed will pick the first map in the bo3 to play, as well as one map in the pool to remove. Then the lower seed team will pick the second map to play, and one map to remove. Finally the high seeded team will pick the third map out of the remaining two maps in the pool.

I wouldn't expect such an amateur tournament from GotFrag :/
I can see it's just something GF had to do because they couldn't make the CoD:WAW tourney, DAMN might be used in CoD:WAW, but in CoD4?

It's just the same as CGS make players to play CS:Source, with DAMN, it's not the same game, only look alike.

This is amazing for CoD4...could present some incredible opportunities in the future...i can't express how important it is to get your teams signed up and registered to max this out at 32 teams ASAP.

Also, the DAMN mod showcases more skill, game smarts, aim...etc than the promod which was incredibly easy to kill people in and nades were like atomic bombs. This is good for gaming :DDDD

It's online, so euros will be at a disadvantage. To try to balance things a bit, Euro teams can request an east coast server (~100-110 ping)

The Tournament Bracket will run on a Tuesday/Thursday schedule. Matches with a Tuesday Default Match Time must be played by 8 AM ET on Thursday. Matches with a Thursday Default Match Time must be played by 9 AM ET on Tuesday.

Also I don't know about you guys but I might have a hard time waking up to play these matches :<
