Call Of Duty: CEVO-P Season 4 Preview

By: Ryan McKay - Published July 09, 2009 at 4:04 AM EDT - Writer Archive
Who will reign supreme this season?
The final CEVO-P season of Call of Duty 4 begins tonight with many new faces making their first appearances at the top tier of the game. Will multiple teams die after consecutive losses? Will we see another MoBgaming vs Pandemic finals? We will have to see in 9 weeks for the final answers to these 2 questions. Here is a quick breakdown of all the teams competing this season.

Pure eSports

United States Eric "snatcch" Brinkley (Leader)
United States Taylor "TayloRRR" Sheridan
United States Alexander "MasterAlex" Solis
United States Alex "Flak" Lasselle
United States Joshua "gladia7or" Adams

United States Carter "COACH" Salley

The expectations are high for Pure eSports this season. With the addition of TayloR, Flak, and Master alex to the roster, they will be the team to beat this season. The team will also be attending the summer LANs in Europe. Each player on this roster is someone that can obviously hold their own. Pure is a team that uses superior strats that will adapt around what the opposing team does. The only way I see teams outplaying Pure is if they use something unordinary and have a superior shot, which will be very difficult to achieve. Pure is going to hit this season hard. I hope that Pure does well overseas and shows that there are plenty of skilled teams in North America. Unless something goes horribly wrong with their travels, I’d expect this team to last out until the end of the game.

Player to Watch - TayloRRR I have always seen Taylor as one of the best MGs in the game. If he is on his game, he is one of the hardest players to stop hands down. Besides having one of the better shots in the game, he also has a good head between his shoulders. Taylor isn’t one to run out and do something that will cost his team rounds, but the exact opposite. Taylor will indeed be able to pull off many crucial situations and clutches that will gain Pure the rounds they need.

Prediction: 12-6

Area-51

United States Travis "kpwnage" Gallo (Leader)
United States Andrew "theimpaler" Coons
Canada PierreLuc "LUq" Soucy
United States Douglas "frizz-" Glendenning
United States Chad "je$tl0lk" Hansen

United States Marc “sLuT” Dib
Canada Shane “nuz” Carter
United States Theo “darkk” Tijssen

Area 51 has changed a lot since we saw them a few weeks ago. Although the starting lineup has had a massive makeover, they are sure to be another team to look out for. After former team leader Jtf2 was put on the side, new team leader Kpwnage has taken the reigns that will steer this team through this season. The only worry I have for this team is if they have the chemistry that will allow them to survive until the end of the season. This team has an extremely aggressive play style. On most maps if you stop this heavy offense it is easy to gain the rounds. However, this isn’t a team that won’t know when to slow things down and try something different. As stated, the only concern for this team would be if they are able to survive. There is no telling how this team would react if they were to lose a few matches.

Player to Watch - Je$tl0lk This is probably one of the best players that has touched this game. Jest has always been a top fragger on the top teams. When playing against Jest, I don’t think I have ever seen him do poorly in a match or scrim. Jest can pick up any gun he wants and outplay anyone that he comes across. Expect great things from him during Area 51’s matches.

Prediction: 10-8

FocaL

United States Kevin "starbuck" Koch (Leader)
United States Tyler "sparx" Lovitt
Canada Chad "Hipshot" LaFitte
United States Ray "rayZer" Sheehan
United States Kyle "hackett" Feeley

United States Cody "cubed" Thaw
United States Wojtek "Wojo" Jazwierski

There is only one word that comes to mind with this roster, history. Most of these players have been together since the start of Call of Duty 4 or longer. With the addition of the one and only “East Coast Muscles” rayZer, this team has the ability to place high this season. Focal is a team that I don’t see dying mid season…. Again. It seems they have their mind set on finishing out this game while enjoying their time together. From what I have usually seen, Focal sticks to the obvious strats for most maps but they just perform them so well it’s hard to stop. It will take a lot of effort for teams to keep Focal down in matches.

Player to Watch - Hipshot Two seasons ago in CEVO-P when I came across Focal, it was Hipshot that seemed to control the flow of the match. If Hipshot does well, then things will go great for Focal. Hipshot is a very smart player that is able to take advantage of most holes in the other teams setup.

Prediction: 9-9

MoB-Deep

United States Matthew "ChimPae" Gomez (Leader)
United States Gabriel "SpEc-" Beltre
United States Rob "kaju" Donahue
United States Craig "Jouninn" Murray
United States Dean "shftr" Southworth
United States Caleb "Saw" Fischer

United States Jordan "jordanR" Rysedorph

This is a team that has potential to do better than most. With the addition of 2 players from the previous season of CEVO Open’s winning team, there is plenty of skill that has been added to allow this team to go even further. Although Chimpae will be gone for nearly 3 weeks, the team has such strong backups there isn’t much to worry about. However, during that 3 week absence it will be up to Spec to keep the team intact. This is the only obstacle that I see MoB Deep facing this season. Only time will tell if Chimpae returns to the same team or a deserted roster. This roster is one I feel that will rely on the opening frags of the round to control how well they do. I expect their close up game to be one of the better in CEVO-P.

Player(s) to Watch - ChimPae/Spec This is really the only way I see this team going the extra mile. These two HAVE to perform in order for this team to do well. If either has off matches it will be fairly difficult for them to come out with a comfortable win. Besides playing together since nearly the beginning of MoB-Deep, both are without a doubt control towers of MoB-Deep.

Prediction: 8-10

Point 5

United States Scott "nystomped" Longe (Leader)
United States Shawn "Crakka" H
United States Lorenzo "magic" Dabish
United States Adam "Uzi" Wedekind
United States Chase "bigtuck" Tucker

United States Kyle "onyx" Walter
United States Adam "St(+)rm" Storm

A team filled with many new faces to the cevo-p division, they have a lot to prove to everyone else in the division. Not only will they have the weight on their shoulders of having to win a match, but they will also have to bring some tough matches to their competition to gain respect. They are a roster filled with little experience, but at the same time that may bring them a bit of an advantage if they play differently from the rest. Don't sleep on them because they did make it through cevo-p placement and could pull out a surprise win or two.

Player to Watch - bigtuck The most experienced player on their roster, bigtuck has alot on his plate to be sniping and possibly being the most vocal player on his team. Having seen him at numerous cod2 / 4 LAN events he definitely has the skill to do well, but will have to do it consistently for his team to make an impact this season.

Prediction: 1-17

Team Pandemic

United States Jason "crzg" Pielemeier (Leader)
Canada Nicolas "Nicolas" Aubin
Canada Rob "rob-wiz" Kennedy
United States Steven "limitless" Kietzer
United States Keith "keith" Hullenaar

Words can’t describe how outstanding this roster is. I have no doubt that this team will be at the top throughout the season. I see Pandemic giving every team a very hard time each week and a run for their money. It wouldn’t surprise me if Pandemic managed to win this season; however, there are many other great teams. Pandemic has always been the team with the better strats and shots. You can without a doubt expect the exact same from this lineup. This is going to be a very hard team to outstrat and outshoot. Not many of the teams in this season will be able to achieve getting more than a few rounds on Pandemic.

Player to Watch - Crzg Picking an overall “better” player from this lineup is extremely hard. I will place any and all expectations in the current leader. It will be up to Crzg to drive this team to doing outstanding this season. I have no doubts that he will be able to keep this team going strong in and out of the game. When playing, I know Crzg will be able to give his team round winning frags that will allow them to maintain a comfortable lead over the other top teams.

Prediction: 17-1
