United 5, coming off their impressive 1st place finish in the GGL Invitational, takes on the new move-up Pernicious Vengeance.
pV(T) kicks the game off with a split attack on A, but u5 disrupts the strat early in the round at the mid fence with a nice stack. pV tries to recover and take A, but is unable to, giving the opening round to u5. pV went with hard mid rushes for both of their save rounds, and both times gave u5 some trouble before being taken down. Any confidence that they might have gained from that limited success was quickly erased in the next few rounds however, as u5 locked down the map. 4th round pV tried to push several points along the map at once, but u5 easily defended against the attacks. In the 5th u5 pushed hard up middle to catch pV off gaurd and win another easy round. u5 would continue to alternate between playing back and pushing forward to control the pace of the game, and it worked very well up to the 7th round when pV decided to start playing a very slow, cautious style. u5 was feeling very confident at this point as they had yet to lose a round, and this lead to them walk right into pV's crosshairs throughout the rest of the half by being too aggressive. If u5 pushed up, they would often walk right into waiting pV players, but if they played back, it would give pV an oppurtunity to mount a stronger, more thorough attack. pV's smart play allowed them to trade rounds with u5 for the remainder of the half, while u5's raw skill kept them going. By the 14th round, it really seemed like pV was in control despite being down 9-4, as they were again able to pick a u5 push into the B tunnels before taking and holding B. The 15th round saw u5 get back on track despite only being able to do a partial buy, as they allowed pV to enter B before pouncing and winning the round to take a 10-5 lead into the second half.
u5 decided to open the second half with a very quick attack on A. They focused the attack at mid before running into A to cut off any early rotations by pV, and the strat worked very well, resulting in a win for u5 behind sunmans' triple. u5 again had a bit of trouble on pV's save rounds, but they were still able to come out with wins. In the 4th round u5 went with a B split attack, but pV handled it very well until the end of the round where they nearly lost a 3v1 against da_bears. u5 used a variation of their pistol strat for the 5th round and it worked yet again, so they decided to do pretty much the same thing in the 6th round. It looked like they were about to take the round after some impressive entrance shots, but mask0fdeath came up big to win an intense 1v3 in the site and give the round to pV. u5 sent a save rush to B in the 7th round to mix things up, but diLorenZo handled that quickly with a quad. u5 continued to work A succesfuly in the 8th round with another split attack, and in the 9th round they seemed poised to take the match after taking A yet again and getting it down to another 3v1. This time, however, it was the clock that gave pV the win, as time expired just before u5 was able to get the bomb down in the site. pV continued to hang on by a thread in the 10th round as they barely avoided being aced by sunman, who picked up a quad at B before being taken down in another clutch play by mask0fdeath 1v1. In the 11th round however, u5 again used their lethal A split attack to finally clinch the match as Hare won a 1v2 in the site to end the game.
u5 > pV 16 - 10 (10-5 CT, 6-5 T)
Top Players:
1st Half - db, Josh, and Hare all play very well, while diLorenZo leads the scoreboard. Be sure to watch josh in the 2nd and 6th rounds, diLorenZo in the 7th, db for some nice deagle shots in the 9th, josh again in the 11th, over to sunman for the 12th, and finally flashback in the 14th.
2nd Half - sunman really dominates this half, watch him except for in the 6th follow mask0fdeath and in the 7th watch deLorenZo. |
