« Hide Release NotesLet me start by thanking you for your interest in my film. I appreciate it (honestly).
This film is a compilation of some of the most well-known and impressive clutch rounds in history. For my purposes, I limited myself only to rounds that were decided by one player facing a multitude of enemy players (technically sunman’s “Shot Heard Round the World” is a one on one, but if I left that out, I would be lynched). All the rounds contained in this film are 1 v x situations (for a complete rundown of all the scenes and links to all the demos, please see “clutch – frags.txt” contained in this zip).
The movie is done in x264. If you have problems getting it to play, check the problems.txt included in this zip. I encoded at a fairly high bitrate for x264 (it's smaller than it would've been as a wmv or xvid file), but I have no interest in sacrificing quality for a few extra MB in the days of hundred GB hard drives.
So, dozens of demos and hundreds of GBs of raw footage (not to mention several months) have led to this. I apologize for the choppiness of some scenes; unfortunately, some of the scenes happened four or more years ago, and only laggy demos are available. I did everything I could to reduce the lag. In addition, I couldn’t get rid of the ****ing HLTV logo in Bullseye’s 1v3 against 4K (I looked at every sprite and .wad file, I even tried hex editing it, nothing worked), so you’ll just have to deal with it.
Thanks to my friends and family for humoring me through this process. Thanks especially to my loving partner Heather for, if not understanding, at least putting up with this project. Thanks to Gotfrag, own-age, and every other site that hopefully hosts this. Thanks to all the players, events and sponsors who help make great tournaments, and great rounds like these, possible. Finally, thanks to you, the viewer, for watching. I hope you enjoy it.
Finally, the legal mumbo-jumbo. The contents of this zip file, including, but not limited to, “Clutch.mp4,” “readme.txt,” “clutch-frags.txt,” and “problems.txt” are copyrights of Sam Pollach, 2006. Feel free to redistribute this zip file or host it wherever you wish (including ftps and bit-torrent), but any redistribution must include ALL files included in the original zip and credit me. If you feel like you want to use something from this movie, give me credit. If you charge for users to download this movie, I demand a cut of the profits.
This is an explanation of every frag in the movie; where in the movie it happens, who it is, who it's against, a short description of the event, and where you can download the demo to watch it yourself. Enjoy.
0:00 - Lari vs. Team 3D - 1 v 3. Lari's sneaky maneuver in round 11 is not enough to overcome 3D, who takes the match 22-8. Demo at
http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/demos/15608/ (1st half, round 11)
01:46 - Moses vs. Begrip - 1 v 4. Moses’ stunning 1 v 4 is not quite enough; Begrip wins the round 16-14. Demo at
http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/demos/10430/ (2nd half, round 13)
02:28 - Warden vs. Team 3D - 1 v 4. Though technically a 1v4, Warden’s clutch against 3D gave him an ace for the round; he got his first kill seconds before his final teammate died. This round was enough to help coL build momentum, but they couldn’t stop 3D, who ended up winning and taking home the title of DigitalLife 2005 Champions. Demo at
http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/demos/14353/ (1st half, round 8)
03:32 - Stevenson vs. SK.Sweden - 1 v 4. Stevenson’s noble effort was a phenomenal display of how to take and hold a bombsite, but it wasn’t enough. SK ended up winning the match, and CPL Summer 2005. Demo at
http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/demos/13304/ (1st half, round 5)
04:18 - Bullseye vs. Ownij - 1 v 5. Perhaps the greatest ninja defuse of all time, Bullseye wins the 11th round by defusing with all five terrorists alive. Demo at
http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/demos/3901/ (1st half, round 11)
05:20 - Ksharp vs. iwa - 1 v 4. One of two great clutch rounds from Ksharp’s famous performance against iwa, this one is actually only a 1v3 (Ksharp’s first kill is followed immediately by the death of his last teammate). His single-handed retake of the b site against 4 players coupled with a last second defuse helped 3D dominate this relatively meaningless RGL-e match. Demo at
http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/demos/645/ (1st half, round 5)
05:57 - Jungle vs. EG - 1 v 4. ESWC 2006 offered wNv, China’s top clan, to show the world that they were capable of winning events without a “home field advantage.” wNv’s performance at the event was a disappointment, but Jungle’s impressive 1v4 pistol round victory against EG was a high point for the tournament as a whole. Demo at
http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/demos/17079/ (2nd half, round 1)
06:55 - sunman vs. eoLithic - 1 v 1. "The Shot Heard Round the World" cemented zEx and sunman into the record books, and stands as possibly the most well-known clutch of all time (despite being merely a 1 on 1). Demo at
http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/demos/371/ (2nd half, round 9)
07:43 - tr1p vs. Lunatic-Hai - 1 v 2. This clutch became famous with its inclusion in the film CompLexity: Armageddon (a film worth downloading merely to watch this scene). Tr1p’s stealthy play is a fitting example of how to win using brains over pure fragging. Demo at
http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/demos/13311/ (1st half, round 2)
08:48 - Moto vs. SK.Sweden - 1 v 4. One of the top three clutch rounds of all time (along with sunman vs. eoL and Bullseye vs. 4K, both included in this movie), Moto miraculously kills four members of the top team in the world while stuck behind a box. Demo at
http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/demos/9599/ (match on de_inferno, 2nd half, round 1)
09:32 - Blizzard vs. compLexity - 1 v 4. Mousesports positively rolled complexity at CPL Spain, winning the match 16-2. Blizzard’s amazing clutch belies the incredible play mouz put up against the favored American team. Demo at
http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/demos/12205/ (1st half, round 8)
09:55 - Rambo vs. Begrip - 1 v 3. Everyone knows Ron “Rambo” Kim is famed for his clutching ability. In this clip, Rambo throws a fake flash and manages to fool two players from Begrip, before quickly taking down the third. Unfortunately, Rambo’s clutch play was not enough; Begrip wins it, 16-7. Demo at
http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/demos/10463/ (1st half, round 5)
10:13 - Ksharp vs. iwa – 1 v 4. The second impressive 1v4 from Ksharp’s legendary demo, this features the most famous AWP scene in Counter-Strike history (it’s actually illegal in some states to feature a Ksharp clip in a CS movie without including this one). The clip is so often seen that people seem to forget it was a 1v4. Demo at
http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/demos/645/ (1st half, round 9)
10:27 - Method vs. EYEBallers - 1 v 3. The first of several clutch situations from one of the better matches in CS history, Method successfully defends the bomb in B against three rampaging CTs. Demo at
http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/demos/10505/ (1st half, round 10)
10:40 - shaGuar vs. EYEBallers - 1 v 3. The next of several clutch situations from one of the best matches in CS history, shaGuar mows down the CTs, getting a fluke headshot to win the round. NoA would go on to win the round and their first CPL title. Demo at
http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/demos/10505/ (1st half, round 12)
10:53 - cogu vs. V-Sports European All-Stars - 1 v 5. Many North Americans complained when two Brazilians were named to the American All-Stars squad, but cogu's performance converted even the most die-hard of naysayers. Demo at
http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/demos/16539/ (1st half, round 4)
11:16 - Gosu vs. Weekend Warriors - 1 v 4. An online match in CAL-I, pre-playoffs, is hardly a match where you would expect a huge performance; yet Gosu delivered just that. In the second half, Gosu dominated W.E.W with solid AWP work and this incredible clutch with only 29 hp left. Demo at
http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/demos/9909/ (2nd half, round 8) There is also a POV of this available from ESEA at
http://www.esportsea.com/index.php?s=demo.. 11:37 - Bullseye vs. 4 Kings - 1 v 3. The final of the top three clutch rounds of all time, and possibly the most important, Bullseye comes up huge, winning a crucial partial ECO round to keep 3D alive in CPL Summer 2003 (3D would go on to place third). Demo at
http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/demos/4497/ (2nd Overtime, 3D as CT, round 2)
12:32 - Torrez vs. EG - 1 v 1. By far the best part of this "clutch" is the commentary offered by Torrez's teammates as he tracks EG.Stevenson around the map before trapping himself behind a box and losing the round. Demo at
http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/demos/15849/ (1st half, round 10)
13:27 - Hanes vs. EG - 1 v 1. Hanes' clutch jump work makes this clutch memorable; blackpanther's reaction makes it classic. Demo at
http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/demos/14149/ (1st half, round 10)
14:05 - Jacobson vs. mp - 1 v 5. Winning a 1v5 is plenty impressive. Winning it using only a knife is moreso. Demo at
http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/demos/11878/ (1st half, round 1).
14:39 - compLexity vs. Team 3D - 4 v 0. Some claim coL dropped the defuse to further humiliate 3D who was already losing badly. Others say tr1p called for sunman to drop the defuse so he could swap guns, unaware that sunman had no kit. Whatever the case, coL ended up winning the match quite handily, taking home their third consecutive cal-i title. Demo at
http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/demos/14813/ (2nd half, round 3)
