There has been alot of post recently for people looking for help.
This is kind of long but read it, it's very useful. It gets updated almost daily with very usefull information for evrywone.
*there are more guides keep on going down,,, almost added daily =D
I'll link you to some websites and tell you what benefits you can get from those tutorials.
First of all if your a new movie maker and just looking to get started, look here http://moviemakers.nu/ you would have to be registered to see the tutorials. There is also a program review section on therem witch you can check out as well.
Here are some more wesbites witch you can look at for more movie making tutorials:
*note: for many of these websites you have to register an account.
Also for 3d and graphic desing tut's you can always check out www.good-tutorials.com there is many more websites (search them up) google is your friend there.
If your looking for somthing specific just post it and hopefully i can get back to you as soon as possible.
There is a alot more websites i will probally give you guys couple of more websites tommorow.
Hard drive space: i currently have only 125 mb of free space on my computer witch is very bad, You need alot of hard drive space for making movies, especially counter strike and some other games as well, "startmovie_90" witch is the procces of ur computer taking "90" .bmp(bitmaps) a second, Bmp's takes big amount of space on your computer, thats when you have to convert it into .avi there is countless amount of programs witch you can use. (there is a guide for this on www.moviemakers.nu ) **Even after you conver the .bmp's into .avi the avi will still be the same size
This is part of a tut on www.own-age.com i just want to point it out
Most computers today have a fairly large amount of hard drive space. If quality is what you want, you must be willing to sacrifice some storage for footage. If you have a large amount of extra storage and really want to have a good quality video, I would suggest rendering all your footage files as uncompressed avi's. Uncompressed = undamaged/untampered footage. It contains an exact replica of the source. Uncompressed comes at a great expense.. Large hard drive space.
1 Minute of 320x240x24 uncompressed avi ~ 402 megs 1 Minute of 640x480x24 uncompressed avi ~ 1.57 gigs 1 Minute of 720x480x24 uncompressed avi ~ 1.76 gigs (this is dvd resolution) 1 Minute of 800x600x24 uncompressed avi ~ 2.45 gigs
^^ that is a part of it) 1 Minute of 800x600x24 uncompressed avi ~ 2.45 gigs is the most used, and that is alot of space so you would offcourse need space if you want good quality. what happens when you compress your clip "not your hole movie" horrible quality, don't change your resloution, if you record at 800x600 have your movie at 800x600.
Codecs&compression:
Where to get them: www.free-codecs.com i'm pretty sure this website has all the codecs you may need.
Now here are two of the most codecs used:
wmv: there is a tut for it http://moviemakers.nu/wmv.asp here it is i currently use it, but don't like it very much, i'm goona start incoding with "x624" witch i will explain a little about later. It is a very easy guide and somthing to encode with, but like any other thing in life it has it's ups and downs but i highly suggest it for NEW movie makers. If you have windows media player witch i'm sure you do, you don't need to download the codec =D
*i'm currently messing around in vegas on my free time to get some ideas to my brothers blooper movie, only his friends gets too see it so i just render with wmv so they don't have to download any codecs to watch it.
xvid: I love using xvid in just little test clips, it gives you good compression, there is a tut for xvid configration in www.moviemakers.nu i can find the excat address but it's under http://moviemakers.nu/moviem_tutorials2.asp i suggest to use it. if the link there is down to download the codec just go here http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/ this isin't the site witch i downloaded from, so if theres an eror just post it and i'll check it out.
x264: i'm not very familiar to this codec but i know it's a very good coedec to encode with, i DO NOT RECOMEND this for new movie makers at all it will get you very confused, http://www.wussie.nl/guide/guide.html here is the link to the tut, this codec has been use alot and it is a very good codec to encode with i Highly recomend it to movie makers that know there stuff.
i highly recomend this following page if you want to learn about codecs http://own-age.com/forum/thread.aspx?id=5.. it will give you a very good amount of information about comprssion and codecs, using what codec is kind of a personal choice.
Thats all for now maybe more updates tommorow. I'm still a new movie maker, made only one cs movie -_- with like fraps at 10 fps and i will make sure no one will ever see it, I have a cs project to, an underground frag movie, witch i never get around too, maybe i'll make it when i stop sharing a computer with my brother who has around 4000 songs and probally even more movies *not related to gaming movies or stuff like that.
Go down to post #23 to see more usefoll information.
I'd like to add something to what you said about uncompressed files,
There's an excellent codec wich is called huffyuv, and that you can download here : http://neuron2.net/www.math.berkeley.edu/.. (to install it, just do right click on the .inf file and install)
This is a loss less codec, wich means that it has nearly the same quality than uncompressed file (you cannot see the difference) with a smaller size on your hard disk.
I, and the majority of the french moviemakers use it, so i advice you to use it if you do not wish to kill down your hard disk.
When will France win a major counter-strike event??? Future will say...
#17 this is not reallt a tuttorial more of a guide, i'm still a new movie maker, and dont really have the time to make movies and the space, i probally will be in the future, maybe putting in an guide for particle illusion.
x264 is a beastly codec, but it's extremely difficult to use. I highly suggest using it if you can, though. I got the hang of it and had it going pretty well but since I don't make full-length movies it's kind of pointless for little clips since it's so much work.
HuffyUV is good if you don't ahve much HDD space. Personally, I have 300 GBs so it's no problem for me :P
And you don't have to use bmp2avi if you don't want to. You can just import every bmp into vegas using that "Open in sequence" box for every clip.
well fraps is Fraps "is a universal Windows application that can be used with all games using DirectX or OpenGL technology" witch includes counterstrike and other multimedia things of that sort (i wont be getting into that becuase that will take us way to of) the new fraps v.2.7.2 can now catpure at 60 fps (fps meaning: frames per second) you need a very good computer so it can do this, if you have seen "Derosas official movie" it was captured from .Dem to .avi with fraps the movie got good/bad feedback the creator is andrew"s1ntax"flores his computer gave him a good quailty with fraps but didn't give him excellent quality, and he has a very good computer, "thnx for putting me the shoutouts :p " some people didn't like the quailty very much. when you capture a .dem file it will already have your ingame sound synced with the clip, but when you use (lets say startmovie 90) you get .90 bmp's ( i explained about this if you scroll up a little) it doesn't record sound, becuase it only takes pictures, you would have to have (fraps, sound forge) or other sound recorders running at the same time to record it, then you later only use the sound coming from fraps or what ever sound recorder you used to record the sound, then you would have to sync the sound with your clip, this is kind of a hard progress for new movie makers, especially like me, there is a tuttorial on www.moviemakers.nu witch will show you how to sync the audio and the clip.
Now for evryones favriote program Particle Illusion
"particleIllusion is a standalone particle effects application that is easy to use, fast, and powerful. Use it to quickly add amazing particle effects to any image, animation or video."
The official site of this program is www.wondertouch.com i love this program messing around with it on my free time, I don't have photoshop after effects simply becuase i just don't have the space but i will be explainging some too. Well if your looking for tuttorials on particlle ilusion they are on this site just navigate on the left side, here is a tuttorail witch is on the flip side forums posted by the one and only remonde (it will show you how to get a really nice tranceparend backround in particle illusion and for it too look very nice) it's made by x-booze from www.moviemakers.nu i coudn't find this on the movie makers site so if you have an account on flip-sides website to be able to see it) http://www.flipsideprod.com/forums/index...
scroll down to see the particle illusion tuttorial
More to come, this will get updated daily with more usefull information.
#20 virtual dub is also free www.virtualdub.org if you have vegas you can do it as well i havn't tried it yet, but when i do and figured it i will post on here a tutorial
here is x-boozes tuttorial www.moviemakers.nu not sure if this is copyright or not :p
1. Insert your "avi" file in Particle Illusion you can do this by rightclicking your layer window ( see screenshot ) then choose your footage but beware don't got above 1000 frames for some odd reason if you add an avi with more than 1000 frames Particle Illusion wont load it
2. Make a Blue or green Background in Particle Illusion This can be easily done by going to "VIEW" and then "Preferences" and choose BG color i'll give you the value's ( RGB stands for RED , GREEN and BLUE in case you didn't know this ) for the green and blue screening Method
Blue screen = R 24 G 71 B 241
Green screen = R 41 G 244 B 24
Now these are the Value's for Blue and green sceening so remeber got to view then preferences and select "BG COLOR" and give in these value's after you're done rendering go to vegas and choose " Chroma Keyer" In the " Video FX " window. now pick the Preset that you want if you went for Blue Screen pick Blue Screen if you went for Green Screen pick Green Screen. Easy huh ? also note ! If your Particle Illusion Effect has a lot of blue in it don't use BLUE SCREEN this also counts for the Green Screening if there is a lot of green in it don't go for Green screening green or blue screening can give you also a wierd effect but it can look nice it's up to you what you think of it !
Now last but not least.
3. This is a method really like . Just render you output as you usually do. it will be black but that doesn't mather since this can give you some nice effects when you use vegas . Now if you really want it to give a bit a transparant look then you should change your "compositing mode " in vegas to "Screen "or "Add" this will be a little bit sloppy because it's not 100% over the footage it just blends 2 . But it can give you a nice effect also if you want to have a Unique look try diffrent Compositing modes my favourites are "Hard Light" And "Multiply"
