Okay im pretty much a cal-m/p ( dunno as i dont have cal in my country ) level caller.
But one thing always gets me thinking about calling as in my experience there are 2 types:
* Theres the caller that is really specific and shows you WHICH flashes and stuff to throw and when to throw them e.g : ( at 1:45 throw 2 flashes at stairs and walk and wait untill 1:30 and smoke ct ramp )
Which is ok i guess but then that raises another thought, How can you prepare strats like that not knowing how the other team plays?
If they play aggressive stairs then yeah ok thats good you've prepared for that but what IF they dont? thats 2 flashes wasted.
Then theres the other caller that isnt specific and just calls say.. "Split A"
which with better players around cal-p/i level know which flashes to throw and when to throw them.
It's just really confusing to know which of those 2 types of callers are better.. but thats just me.
the second way is always better but the level of difficulty is different too right
what i prefer is, you do the first way like teach all the flashes and has like a few strats try all the strats in scrims and later ur teammates should discover how to adapt.. with experiences? unless they are that stupid and if they are just give up on them :p
if they are pro enough, of course, you can just start right off with second way
umm cal i/p players call liek the first kind. just in a server with there team before the game so all he has to say is split a in a match and the flashes go where he wasnts them
If you have to hold your team's hand on every single move they make and tell them exactly how to do everything, then they should probably just go back to pubbing. Everyone has different styles and methods that work for them, so they need to figure some things out on their own.
I agree with #11 and #14, GOOD strat callers practice with their teams long before matches/scrims so that all they have to do is call the strat and everything else is just done, hopefully with the players still able to improvise without messing up possible complex strats
Valve personnel wake up everyday and say: Hey how can we make CS 1.6 sh1tt1er and p1ss people off
If you want to get better as a team and progress through tournaments against teams that are more skilled, experienced and knowledgeable than you, I can guarantee you that you will never make it out of group play with just "Split A". Unless of course you have a Split A rush flash/smoke/nade set-up down pat, you will rarely get past a team that knows their business. The thinking behind this is:
1) That strat relies on the individuals in your team doing individual based flashes/smokes/nades. 2) It relies too heavily and aim and luck.
I'll go over these two points in general for you.
Point 1) The reason teams win matches is because they play as a co-ordinated unit. They flash for their team-mates and their team-mates flash for them. They "nuke" (mass nade) a certain area if they know the other team has double stacked or stacked in an area and they smoke off an choke point or cross over so their team-mates can get across without getting smacked by an AWPer. It is hard to stop a rush when you have a three simultaneous flashes coming at you from unexpected angles.
Thus, if you want to be a good caller, and therefore lead a good team, I suggest you sit your players down and discuss with them a default nade/flash/smoke rush set-up for every site on every map you'll play. It's not too hard and will only take you about 30mins each site, assuming of course that your team isn't stupid.
That being said, don't "smother" your team with set-ups. Tell them when and where to flash, but still leave them some leeway to move and play the style they are comfortable with. If you adjust your strats to suit your players' style, I can promise you'll receive a better result.
Point 2) If you rely on aim to beat teams, you will lose so many times it will make you cry. Unless your CPL or at LEAST CAL-i and your versing CAL-o, you will not win. Teams at high levels will use counter-flashes, smokes and nades to delay, stop and destroy any rush that comes their way.
How then can you get into a site without getting your head ripped off?
Simple.
Use your nades. Use your flashes. Use your smokes. Use your team.
If your team can not execute co-ordinated and somewhat complex entry strats, then I suggest you get a better team or teach them how. Otherwise you might as well be pugging ^^
If you want some further reading on what I was talking about, have a read of dsn's blog about team work and getting better at CS in general:
I can see both of those types of calling... if they play aggressive in the example you're talking about, change it up. I don't think strats should ever be so static... they should be changed around a lot so the other team gets thrown off a little.
In all honestly, you cant call that specifically, you have to play each round by ear. Yes you can call a certain tactic, but you have to trust your team to execute that tactic in their own manner, you have to trust they know what they are doing and can adapt and improvise when necessary.
If you call a tactic so specifically, for all you know, they all push, anything could happen, your team needs to go by what they feel is happening within the round. Anythin which is called should always be subject to change and what happened within that round. you may tell them to go short and do certain things, for all you kno, 3CT's got boosted onto short and are pushing it hard.
Obviously some maps have to be played very differently, Dust2 can be taken very slow as T and you can wait for pushes. Nuke is different, bomb sites are much less open so calling who you want to flash and where would work much better, upper for example, telling some1 to flash hut door, window and squeeky would be much more beneficial then telling people where to flash on other maps.
i dont play CS anymore due too the teams ive been on and stuff, but i was usually strat caller
This is what we'd do to call and practice strats
-Go over the map 1 side (usually CT first) go over it for about a day (Sometimes two) -only get specific about times when your on T side, cause you have a timelimit so really its only effective then -strat calling for me only really only goes on T side -For CT side usually i make about 5 play strats and 2 position strats -Play strats is when the whole team is moving the whole time, and usually arent used unless you are flawless with them -position strats is like having your guys stay in 1 position call out where they are, call bomb then go to where bomb is
For T side, it varies usually for my teams we're stronger T sided because we have so many strats and we go over them 4 hours a day, 5 days a week
I had the same team for about 5 years and we tried really specific strats for one season, it was our best season but way too much time and effort. I found just running around and not really having anything set is a lot more relaxed, and more enjoyable.
teamwork & natural chemistry > convoluted calls. develop teamwork and have fun as a group, then the caller can focus on what the OPPOSITION is doing and effectively countering/pre-empting it without having to worry about "the strat."

what are you guys thoughts on this?
when that strat is executed correctly..
it always works
#3 i doubt you've ever made it out of group play so hush child..

wow,.. just die please
During a game you don't need to be that specific because you guys should have already gone over your specifics.
