I hate to say it but this game is all but dead in North America.
I have been around this game since '01 (cal season 6) and have been on 3 teams my entire cs "career". Why did I just mention that? Listen, teams these days strive to be the best but after a rough loss here or there good teams always seem to break up and join up new teams. Those teams then just start to die out as well.
I remember back in the day when people actually knew the line-ups of teams in CAL-im/m because they were not breaking up or recruiting new players every week.
What I am getting at is that this game will continue to die out unless people start to care more. Everyone wants to see N.A rise up and become a dominant figure in the 1.6 scene again but if teams are just going to continue to die when they reach CAL-i or CEVO-p then that will never happen.
This has to be one of my weakest posts ever (in terms of facts and what not) but I am tired and don't feel like elaborating on this at this present time (maybe tomorrow when I wake up).
All flames are welcomed.

#5 I don't really play video games. The only FPS game I have ever touched is this game. Granted I have played this game for awhile so it makes up for that.
I use to play other games such as starcraft when I was in middle school but have not touched another computer game since. With the exception of a game like peggle.

i have quit this game i cant tell you how many times. yes i agree ppl will come and go because the graphics arent up tp par, but the game play it what people love. no one strives on being the next "ksharp". no and days ppl play it because they enjoy it and the game play it fun.
A) What's the point of being the best when you know the real best teams all left to play another game?
B) There is no legitimacy. How can amateur teams get involved more and rise through the ranks? How many teams get f'ed over by leagues? On top of all of that, it's so easy to cheat online, and the leagues just aren't big enough to truly enforce a fair playing field.
Basically, unless you are at the top, theres not a whole lot of incentive for you to continue. No where is there extensive coverage of the lower tiered leagues (CAL-m and such). Also, no one cares if you make it to the top anymore. Once you make it to the top, you are forced to play Source, so why not move onto other things (such as WoW, like so many have done).
This is what happens when you higher ups abandon the rest of the community. It wouldn't be so bad, but because all of the top teams left for Source, much of the coverage and money has left also. It's not a matter of "We'll just keep doing our thing." Our "thing" was ruined, but we are still here...
#1 That is somewhat true. I agree on the teams dying part since I know a lot of good LAN teams that are friends in real life, but they always call quits if they do bad at LAN events. My friend who is on a team that I won't say, got 2nd place at 3 LAN events in a row and they couldn't take it anymore and decided to quit. To me ever since the start of CGS and teams like Team 3D, coL, etc switched, many teams died or lost interest in the game. And LAN tournaments in my area where I live stopped happening. I know it doesn't connect, but it seems like the start of 2007 was the turning point.
The 1.6 competitive scene internationally is as strong as ever. The skill just keeps growing.
Too bad CGS killed most teams in the NA scene. The current "top" teams are not of the same calibre. But with ESWC in NA this time I hope you guys will pick up again. gl :)
3 teams in roughly 7 years, it's good to know there are more dedicated people out out there. I've been playing since CAL season 12, which was late 2004 or so, and I've only been on 4 teams.
A) What's the point of being the best when you know the real best teams all left to play another game? So you can become the best? I mean N/A still has EG and x3o. So obviously not everyone left.
B) There is no legitimacy. How can amateur teams get involved more and rise through the ranks? By keeping a stable roster and practicing their hearts out. Being the best at this game is not for everyone but if you want to be you need to practice... How many teams get f'ed over by leagues? Not to many On top of all of that, it's so easy to cheat online, and the leagues just aren't b

The current top teams are CAL-P of old.
Kinda sad now when you used to see thousands of spectators in CAL-I matches and now you have less than 50 in CEVO-P matches.
No one wants to hear your BS.
Even though Europe was not hit nearly as hard by CGS they still have up and coming players that are doing well against the top players.

Sadly and amazingly, I'm better at Halo 3 than I am 1.6
You pretty much summed up my post... Thank I guess.

This is pretty much a direct "attack" towards the N/A scene and only that.
If you don't take my post seriously, it's no wonder you don't know WHY the community is dying..
Edit: #25, I miss those as well
