Well if you can afford some of the best.. than buy these.

The only "bad" thing about these headphones is that they are TOO GOOD. LOL. Literally.

So get that. It's one of the best. And it's not even over 1k. Lol.

Without a doubt AKG 240-s are amazing...

I'd take them any day over any product from sennheiser, bose, etc. etc. (coming from personal experience with a variety of studio quality headphones)

if you don't believe me or have no idea what i'm talking about:

A picture of the 240-s (not their top of the line, just the ones I have)

I think you guys should remember that when you're buying high-end cans you will also need a good headphone amplifier and those are not cheap either!

#6 the 240 studio would destroy those lewl, for about 1/3 of the price

helldozer that's not required

I plug my AKG's right into my audigy 2 zs, amazing sound no amplifier needed :P

I had always had DSP-500's and my pair broke last month (lasted 3 years). I now have the DSP 750's and love them.

I have always had good luck with Plantronics DSP series headsets.

#13 AKG K240 Studio is far from high-end. Believe me, you need a good headphone amplifier if you're buying something like AKG K701 or HD650.

#15 get a desktop mic or use a $15 headset with a mic and wear it around your neck

seriously if you want high quality headphones don't shop for something with a mic

i use mine for everything, music, gaming, movies, and on the road. they're extremely durable

#16 I've tried HD650's I honestly wasn't so impressed (this was after I owned HD555's for a long time)

I'm saying AKG is better then sennheiser without a doubt, even though you can't really sennheiser is bad.

Plantronics 550 DSP is good, not realy expensive either
lal

#11 no these are just great headphones lol, mainly for music and bass though lol. i didn't know if #1 wanted gaming headphones or not though... he never specified!! XP

and #13 how do you know your headphones would "destroy" those ......... talking out of yo bum? have you even read the reviews and stuff? these are not the HD555s, these are the the HD650.

LITERALLY it makes listening to MOST 'underground' artists almost UNBEARABLE because these headphones pick up the SLIGHTEST sounds made in their studios. and so unless the way their studio is set up is completely sound proof 10000000%, than yeah, and only many more popular artists are able to pick up record companies that supply them with that sort of sound-proof quality.

and also another thing #13. are you able to listen to .mp3s on your AKGs? the sound quality of .mp3's are UNBEARABLE again to listen to on HD650s. because they pick up everything you will hear every, single, flaw of the codec. it's like watching a cs movie from 2002, and watching one in x264 today. there is a HUGE difference.

so what base are you saying that the 240 studios would "destroy" the hd650s?

EDIT: nvm i just read you didn't use them with an amplifier. LaWlL. an amp is almost NEEDED for all high end headphones btw. maybe that's why you weren't so impresed. you didn't use it to its max quality lol.

#19 have you used the 650's? have you even tried the 240-s?

i've tried them both, I PREFER THE SOUND OF THE AKG'S BETTER. DOESN'T MATTER THAT ONE OF THEM COSTS $400

if i really wanted the BEST sound for my money i'd take #16's advice and get the AKG K701 (even though I've never tried them)

http://www.akg.com/personal/cproducts/pow..

in terms of specs, not just my personal preference, these really are superior to the HD650s

Thank you #21, Best Advice yet!
mess wit da best u die like the rest

#22 you used HD650s without an amplifier though like #16 said, an amplifier is almost needed with high end headphones. i've never tried the 240-s but you never really truly used the HD650s either D: yeah you used them without an amp, but without an amp they are like $60 headphones lol. not only that but you also say that an amplifier isn't needed with high end headphones lol -____-;;.

anyway here are the specs for anyone interested

HD650s
Frequency Response 10 - 39,500 Hz (-10dB)
Input Impedance 300ohms
Connector 6.3mm stereo jack with 3.5mm adapter
Ear Coupling Supra-aural

AKG240
Sensitivity (dB/mW, dB/V*) 91, 104*
Audio bandwidth (Hz to kHz) 15-25
Max. input power (mW) 200
Rated impedance (ohms) 55

you can see for yourself which headphones have better specs. remember the HD650s specifications are without an amplifier. so yeah. lol.
