Tweak gamma and brightness?

Hi, a few days ago I saw someone in a lan event tweaking their gamma and brightness and made them have "less smoke" with 32 bits.
Anyone know theese settings or how they should be? They are completely legal btw.

hmm maybe it isnt gamma and brightness but i saw that with filters like AF or maybe AA u can see easier trought the smoke

with more brightness you will se everything less dark even less smoke.

but i don't know how do you have to manipulate gamma to get 'less smoke'
