I know this is way off topic but I thought i'd give it a try. I'm considering studying over seas in America (thought it would be a good experience) and was wondering what are the best Universities to study History? Any help appreciated.
You can get a History Degree at basically any college or university in the United States. Your best bet is to go to a state university instead of a private one because you will have the same educaiton at both places and it will be cheaper at a state univeristy. Also before you come to America think about which college you want to actually go to and then try and register to become a citizen of the specific state that your school is. But really with a history degree you need to go to graduate school which is far more important than your undergarduate degree. Because if you do good in your undergraduate classes and get a good GPA is all that matters so you can get into a good graduate school.
" Also before you come to America think about which college you want to actually go to and then try and register to become a citizen of the specific state that your school is"
you do realize that it takes 7 years to become a citizen right?
I got confused since we were talking international here and stuff. But my brother who is orignially form NJ decided to go to college at Purdue and moved out to Indiana at the beginning of the summer before his freshman year so he could try and become a resident quicker so he can pay in state tuition instead of out of state.
Don't go to Yale.....my god I live 1 mile away from it and it's completely surrounded by ghetto. Absolutely disgusting....amazing how different an area can change just crossing one bridge.
#2 your forgot princeton , University of pennysilvania(wharton ) for MBA you should before decide what you want to do before and then ask which university is the best for the type of studies you want to do.

Are you doing an undergraduate or graduate program for history?
for Graduate: Yale, Princeton, Berkeley, Harvard, Stanford, University of Chicago
for Undergraduate: I have absolutely no idea. Undergraduate doesn't matter. They only teach you basic crap, with no real emphasis on your individual pursuits. However, I would suggest finding a place that is a major cultural center... i.e. NYC, Boston, DC.
I heard American university/george washington university is surrounded by a 10ft high concrete wall
@ Florida State university there is a homeless shelter, tatoo parlor, and MIDDLESCHOOL all right next to each other on the same street. if you take 1 too many wrong turns here you'll end up in BFE Ghettoville sometimes bums sneak on campus and beg people for money too .. they all smell like diarrhea ... fvckin crackheads
Undergrad does matter contrary to what people here are saying... Your grades will matter and the schools reputation does matter as well. When you graduate and go looking for jobs, you'll find that many positions (highly desirable, competitive, professional positions) want graduates from the top of their class from prestigious universities. If you do not graduate from one of these, you will struggle to even get through the door.
I'd use princeton review rankings of colleges/universities to help narrow down your choice. Also there are criteria that allow you to filter schools based on your preferences.
#9 All degrees are not the same... that is ridulous. Almost like saying "yeah, I have a degree from COMMUNITY COLLEGE HERE in history. We learned all the same things as Harvard grads did it is irrelevant that I went to COMMUNITY COLLEGE HERE." Obviously, this is not true. Assuming you aren't going to be a grade school teacher and are going towards professional, high paying jobs, you should look for high rated, reputable and competitive schools. These will help you later on.
I was told from a friend from belgium who attended american university for her undergrad. She attended a top school and made good grades. I was told from her that for Europeans, undergrad is important and graduating from a top American university looks very good for you. With the European education system providing college for citizens, going to america, paying for it yourself and graduating instantly sets yourself apart from everyone else.
American univeristies
yale
stanford
berkeley
UCLA

our worst university is better than 80% of american universities, or so my guidance counselor told me.
Also, our universities are usually way cheaper. but i don't know anything about history programs anywhere.
