What are the top five competitive video games worldwide in terms of active competitive players (i.e. not including those who play for fun)? I'm doing some research for a paper and I want to know what you think are the most popular games.

My personal guess is:
1. Counter Strike
2. WarCraft 3
3. StarCraft
4. FIFA
5. Halo 3

Right now or of all time?

That list is fail without Quake 3.

CoD4 is nowhere close to top 5. That game has as much players as tf2 or something. Great games (both tf2/cod4) but the two are not big in esports

Is StarCraft really #1 in terms of competitive players? I know Korea is huge, but surely NA + Europe CS outnumber StarCraft players?
