Well I saw many people posting how they would quit counter-strike for sc2 when it came out... with the recent news of the ESEA league, new CPL, and the downfall of CGS are you still going to be making the change?
1) Of what we have seen of StarCraft 2 so far, it really lived up to up all of my expectations and more towards it. The graphics looks amazing and the game play seems to me as another step in the right direction when it comes to RTS games. Of course, I hold StarCraft 1 dear, but one should always be open to new ideas and edits. It's a bit too soon to say right now, but everything I've seen so far looks amazing. And hey, it's Blizzard, they don't mess up.
2) When it comes to the international professional eSports: yes, I think so. The pro-gamers will move over to StarCraft 2 because of more sponsors will be attracted to it, more events will feature it as an official game, leaving at least StarCraft 1 behind. I do think, though, that some of the events will keep on having WarCraft 3 as one of the games, at least for a year more.
Looking at the casual gamers, I am sure both StarCraft 1 and WarCraft 3 will still be alive. But not nearly the same as today. If Blizzard support the StarCraft 2 scene as good as they have done with WarCraft 3, the StarCraft 2 scene won't be anything but a success.
3) I think at least every pro-gamer in StarCraft 1 and WarCraft 3 will try it out as soon as it's out. And I'm quite sure the majority will find it to their liking, and after a couple of weeks: BOOM! We'll see Moon fighting Savior in the first offline tournament.
Why you some people so narrow minded? When did I EVER in my post compare sc2 to cs? They are two completely different games but then again I am posting on a website made for "hardcore" gamers. Do any of you play more than 1 game competitively (not just that but for hours on end)?
Being one of the top american starcraft players, and a reasonably good cs player(CAL P LOL).. i dont think sc2 will take anything away from CS, its going to take away from wc3/sc1.
insider info: sc2 itself wont be that popular competitively, theres going to be mods that will be used for competitive play because sc2 is too easy.^_^~
ill play both, but lean more towards 1.6. I like starcraft, but for me its more of a casual game. I'd rather play with friends that i know than online with randies, last time i played starcraft online half the people map hacked so its really no fun. That or your teammates are noobs.
#20 starcraft2 won't be easier. It will be more intuitive. Sure they'll be less macro you have to deal with. Making it more micro intensive. But alot of the changes i think were necessary. Yes some things will be easier, like controlling massive amounts of unit. Even though you could select your whole army. Don't think the hotkeys and having certain squads binded won't be more useful than just selecting all units to go attack.
Funny how people call SC a horrible game, or can't believe it is still around.
It's not that much older then CS, plus their community is bigger and better.
90% of you can only dream the CS leagues/community can be run like the pro leagues in korea. Multiple pro leagues/tournaments all showcased live on TV with multiple shout casters for different networks.
If CS can find its way into some of those leagues, that would be awesome. Teams like fnatic picking up a SC team are going to help promote CS, because now people will check out fnatics CS team as well.
cs is popular in korea, eStro has a pro sc team as well as cs team. I think cs was banned in korea for some time/mixture of not many people owning computers and having to go to pc cafes.
SC is flooded with koreans who sit in diapers all day playing and soiling themselfs so it is hard for a normal person with 'Friends' to be anygood at it.
Oh common...its a known fact that CS players arent smart enough to play StarCraft, besides Asians have a natural advantage in that game, just like the negros have in sprinting. So dont even try.
#26 The only reason why CS is not popular in Korea is because they play Korean made FPS games like Sudden Attack, Special Force, AVA, etc. Going to a cyber cafe in Korea and trying to play CS 1.6 is nearly impossible since they don't have it most of the time. What you say about how it was banned is not real it's just something about CS 1.5 shutting down and making it hard for Koreans to play 1.6 and you're not a top SC player. The top SC players from America are IdrA, NonY, Artosis, iNcontroL, Machine, and some others.
#24 that is false because only the top players get that salary. The rest of the players can make as low as $500 a YEAR. Becoming a pro SC player in Korea is hard because it's very competitive and you need a lot of dedication to practice. The only reason why Koreans are the best at SC is because of the training environment and how supportive the SC scene is over there. It makes becoming a progamer easier in Korea than lets say America, China, or Europe.
A lot of pro CS players will not switch to SC2 because they're different games and CS has enough of events to keep going. SC and WC3 on the other hand will probably switch to SC2, but a lot of hardcore SC players DO NOT like SC2 because of how dumb down it is and looks more appealing to WC3 players. Blizzard is making SC2 easier than SC because they want to attract SC, WC3, and other casual gamers.
#35 lol totally. When I went to a cybercafe, the rates were super cheap (like 5 bucks for 12 hours via deal). However, most played sudden attack. The rest played warcraft 3 customs. Then starcraft. The place didn't even have Steam. Just CS1.5 @_@
SC2 does look fun, but undoubtedly dumbed down as you say.
#37 They do, but most don't use it. I mean eSTRO still plays on the same version as everyone else. I'm sure there's a decent pub community that does use it though.
