In an earlier thread about lcd's i saw someone post this monitor saying they had used it at a lan and was the best lcd they had played on for cs 1.6. i realized my dad had a few of these sitting around his office so i asked him to bring me home one. my problem is that it is still terrible for 1.6 left 4 dead and TF2 play beautiful but 1.6 is choppy as heck. anyone know any tweaks or settings to help with 1.6? thanks
this is the best lcd 19" ever made, theres a reason it was the sponsored monitor that samsung supplied at wcg 06.
but let me warn you right now about buying OLD samsungs.
1. in the first 5-6 months of the monitors release, samsung actually creates the panels itself
2. after the monitor has its reputation built up, and many people know its good, samsung outsources to save money on the production
3. the outsource to a company in Taiwan and in China, the Chinese company creates pretty solid panels, but i would say their overall quality is about 60% of the samsung one, and if you put each side by side, the difference is pretty easily viewable just on the desktop, if you load up games or movies, u can easily notice the difference.
4. after about 4-5 months of the Chinese company making panels, where you have what i would say is a 30/100 chance of getting a genuine samsung panel, they outsource to a company n taiwan and basically you do not want to get one of these panels. they are complete garbage, look like the lcds from 4 years ago, and look like complete garbage everywhere.
sadly i found out about the 931c about a year after ti was actually released, i bought one, and every day for about 2 hours i would try different settings, different profiles on the forums, different everything, nothing made the slightest difference, it was garbage. however i thought maybe this is just how lcds were so i kept it and let my parents use it, since obviously they dont game, only surf the net.
however i later on found someone on craigslist who had supposedly owned the monitor for over a year and a half (which was fairly close to the release, so i knew it would be a true samsung panel). i bought it, and i got the samsung panel, best lcd ive ever used.
ive used a 226bw (samsung panel), a t220hd (samsung panel) and those are almost just as good, but this is a 19" 4:3 which is in my opinion ment for fps games, unlike 22" widescreens.
so basically, if its at some store in your city, do not buy it. if you can find a used one, from someone who has owned it for a long time, give it a shot. to check the panels, you need to load up the monitors service menu, get whatever info is displayed, then google that and check it on some hardware forums to see if you have an "s" (samsung) panel, or an A or C panel.
U have in this SM 931c some nice options, for example u can click second button from left on the monitor and choose "Dynamic Contrast" is good for games. Also change RTA in MENU(1st button on the monitor)->SETUP->RTA to ON. And probably this choppy is because u are not use to play on LCDs :P After some time (probably 1 week :D) u will be happy using this monitor :DD

the 226bw is hardly ever a samsung panel, only the 226cw is a guaranteed s-panel. the rest are almost always not so nice thoery but its not that bad..
