ok so ive got this, i load the demo and all it does is start up cs in a new game where i can choose a team. everyone in the threads ive read says to select the account im using. i did that and only have just the one account.
1. goto help and update it 2. make sure you have the correct directory paths for both your steam.exe and your hl.exe 3. goto options and uncheck all 3 boxes, you prob dont need them. The reason its starting that new game is as a listen server to fix ingame voice problems.
Load up the demo in the col demoplayer. Then click play. The green "working" bar should complete and take you to 1.6. After 1.6 loads up, without exiting cs, alt+tab out of it. Goto your cstrike folder in there will be a file named "coldemoplayer.dem" - right click and copy this file. It is simply a working version of the demo you want to watch. Paste this file anywhere for the time being. After you paste the file somewhere, quit cs and the col demoplayer program. Then go back to the file you just pasted, rename it to whatever you want, stick that in your cstrike folder and watch it without the demoplayer as if it were any regular demo.

what else can i try?

Or just uncheck "start listen server" box in options.
