Some other freeware aplications to help: - Superantispyware (registered version works like a charm) http://www.superantispyware.com/superanti.. - CCleaner ( After removing programs, or virus/spyware ccleaner helps fix up your registries or any left behind files, this program will also improve computer performance ) http://www.ccleaner.com/
Please also refer to #21 post on ComboFix it is a great program! -NOTE: ensure to run CCleaner after completing a run of ComboFix
- I added the direct link to the files since i noticed when you google up half the programs i listed above, google will show you incorrect results
I noticed alot of people have input their ideas of other programs that are good, there has also been some pointers on disk defragment and 3rd party defragment. (I originally made this post for anti-spyware but since you're all interested)
A little background information on defragment: when you install files on your computer it is broken down into fragments and placed into separate compartments on your hard drive, disk defragment helps keep these fragments together to allow for better performance and faster speeds. I usually recommend windows defragment since most of the 3rd party defragment tools are not the greatest, however a good 3rd party defragment tool is Auslogics Disk Defrag which can be found here: http://download.cnet.com/Auslogics-Disk-D..
Why i made this post: 1) I work for a tech squad on fixing computers 2) refer to this post when someone is lost about how to clean their computer for free
thanks #1... only if you lived in china i would come seek your help... since my pc sucks lately~~~need like to reinstall and i am terrible with computer ( yes i am that stupid)~~~~~

Well I downloaded CCleaner, which other program would you recommend to compliment CCleaner. So I am sure to get rid of all the garbage off my computer. Spyware is the debil!
PC tools registry mechanic is a good tool similar to CCleaner but its not freeware
For freeware i recomend:
-immunise with SpyBot Search & Destroy -use CCleaner to clean ( make sure when cleaning registries to clean them multiple times till no corrupt registries are found )
Every computer that is checked in at the Geek Squad is a 70 dollar diagnostic fee, Microcenter charges the same as most ALL computer repair places. At my location we fix most problems at the counter, we only check people in when we can't do the work in a reasonable amount of time. Sounds like your brainwashed #14
rulER, yea... but there are lots of things that the Geeksquad can't do due to corporate restrictions, blah blah blah... such as DC Jack replacements and LCD screen replacements. besides... $70 is kinda high as the diag fee where i work is only $45... but then again... people will pay the fees usually due to the main fact that they don't know how to fix it themselves.
we had a guy come into our store a while back that had a broken printer he used with WINDOWS 98... yes WINDOWS 98... we told him that it was gonna be close to $400 to repair the printer due to the fact of totally taking it apart and he could get the same printer for about $50 online which we were offering to help him find and purchase... he refused and just wanted us to fix the one he brought in... easy money i suppose!
but back on topic... another VERY strong tool I use when doing malware removals at work for clients is called "Combofix" which can be downloaded here: http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs..
If you would like to read up on some stuff to find more ways to clean out your systems... check out these forums as they have many examples of walking people through all kinds of problems from malware infections and broken operating systems. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/fo..
figured I could put this here instead of making a new topic.
so, yesterday I was getting a good 99-100 fps playing CS. today, I turn on my computer and I notice it's pretty slow. anyway, I turn on CS and I see that I'm at a huge range of fps. like 86-96 in the start screen and then in game it ranges from 30-90. not sure how this happened at all but I've done CCleaner and Malwarebytes with no results. I defragged the CS files, and I honestly don't know what else to do. it might be a steam update but I'm not sure.
#25, try getting and running hijackthis. It gives you a log which you can go over and see what all is being started on your computer during startup. It also shows other stuff which is supposed to start up with windows and run automatically most of the time without you seeing anything from.
If you wanna get the log and send it to me via a priv msg on here i can look over it and see if there is anything worth noting that shouldn't be there or stuff that could be removed to help your system run faster.
If you would like to msg me on IRC you can find me in #buLLet
I actually did a system restore to the previous time I used hijackthis and asked for help from bleepingcomputers to read the log. or is that completely irrelevant and I should do it again in case?
edit: nevermind, I did it quickly and sent you the log file which I hope is the one you were looking for. check your pm box and thanks for your help.
It varies on the store really, If your agents feel comfortable doing the repairs (ie: Screen replacement, DC Jack fix) we can do it under COD; not under MFGW / PSP though as we don't get the parts in store. I do agree with you though #19 I should've worded that better.
#28 if you sent the log to me i haven't gotten anything
#29 that is probably true, i only say that since the Best Buy near where i work sends us their DC Jack repairs since for them to fix them they have to send them off which can take a while as we do all that stuff in-store for the customers to watch if they want.
#30 i hope he doesn't defrag everyday... as that can be bad for your computer.
#32, If you aren't too familiar reading the logs yourself and want to see what all is in it... a good tool for people starting off with the hijackthis log is a website www.hijackthis.de it lets you upload your logfile or copy/paste its contents where it is analyzed on the site and gives you results in under a minute to if stuff is good or bad.
#32 usually when you run CCleaner you should restart since it is fixing up your registries, once a restart occurs your system should run fine. Which is probably what you're noticing
I have a question that does not really pertain to this topic. When I have my router hooked up to my computer my inet is fine but when my computer is hooked up straight to my modem i get spiking issues in game and can see a major improvement with the router. Anyone know why this is happening?
Taken a guess here, your modem is not working properly but connected to your router it fixes the spikes. Could also be a possibility of too many splitters being used.
okay, i just tried to run combofix and as soon as i ran it my clock changed to military time and a minute later i got a blue screen of death. so i reboot and try the dr. web one and the same thing happens, bsod. i'm on a decent machine with windows vista, and although i figure it's just windows screwing me up i just wanted to know if anyone knows what could be going wrong?
thanks #1. And also, its always better to backup your system before you run any tools on your computer. ntbackup is built-in in XP and post Xp OSs http://tweakhound.com/xp/backup/ntbackup.htm
http://www.greatis.com/unhackme/ unhackme isn't free but you get it fully functioning free for 30 days. I had a rootkit and it saved me from having to reformat.
help would be nice, i think its a software issue.. i might have to reformat, i used hijackthis or w.e posted earlier and cleaned up 3 things doubt it did anything tho

#15 I wouldn't say he is brainwashed. There are some best buys that are good and there are some that suck.

I bet you are one of those people who defrag everyday.
