i don't see what the problem is, it's made by everyone who made the original series and basically just slightly alters a few scenes to make the 26 episode series into 4 feature-length films. Novel idea actually, great way to ease one of the most popular/famous animes into mainstream media.
Remember what they did with the original ending to the series? After all those awesome episodes they ended the series horribly and left fans going wtf?
Thank God they redid it with End of Evangelion. It is amazing.

There were some parts of the serious that may be considered unnecessary. I hold my judgments until I actually see the end product when it comes to Anime.
if you take out all the intros, outros, recaps, and repeat scenes in the end i don't think all that much is removed, and from the looks of things they altered scenes rather than remove them to tell the same story in a different manner
Anywho i don't think the evangelion series were even that good, the begin was great but when it reached near the end it was bad, the movie wasn't that great either. I wonder what ending will this 4 part movie will have now? (im very sure they are changing the ending or their would be no point of this.)
Also it will not be open to all theatres just some small ones.

the movie has been out for a while in Japan and u can watch it online stream, its just a english dubbing of it.
