Hey guys, this is kind of an awkward situation I've found myself in. However I'm turning 19 in a month and I've noticed I'm starting to grow my "wisdom teeth", being the teeth that grow when you're 18-22 (around). Now the older peeps here know what i mean i bet, i was just wondering because I've had a few friends telling me i should surgically remove them.
Are they bad for your other teeth? I heard they were unnecessary and they start cramming your other teeth unless you have a big mouth (no pun intended).
#2 Well your body produces extra skin on your weener, it doesn't change the fact you have better chance for infections there + dirt when it's there being that it's unnecessary.
I don't know why it'd be worse, but when you have a smaller mouth it gets crammed with the neighbor teeth and starts making them all crooked + crap... I saw some videos about it and made me shiver to the thought >.<
I'd say go for it. It's just a hassle gone and I'm sure you're man enough to endure the lasting pain for a couple days. I had to leave gauze in my mouth all day long because it didn't stop bleeding.
btw smoking anything is especially bad when u take em out; dry sockets or something @_@
#5 No possibility to surgically fix the angle? Considering they have not grown yet i do not know how well or bad they will grow, i was just preserving my options. Thanks for the input however.
Getting them removed is a decision and orthodontist can make. Some people have enough room for them to grow in and stay, others not. my apartment roomy has his still in with no problems and i got mine taken out like a year or so ago. not the most fun time, but they give you lots of painkillers.
#8 I had to have a nail or something alike (i have a vague memory of it) put into a few of my teeth when i was a child at the dentist. I was never a screamer and always sucked it up but the doctor was absolutely horrible and skipped having to give me medicine for the pain, as i was quiet so it didn't seem like i was in any pain. The dude was trying to cheat his way to gain more profit -.-.
Anyway it was horrifying for me for weeks or so, but it was a good experience because it made me stronger and gave me more will power. Besides, if it came to it i wouldn't leave the chair without my medicine this time :P.
#17 i guess you have a point.. I am not sure if i could fix a crooked tooth after it was pushed in/aside by a wisdom tooth. Although my right side jaw tooth seems to be coming out perfectly normal, as far as my tongue is concerned at least.
Can someone tell me how big wisdom teeth get? According to pictures they don't seem that large to make a difference.
if they're growing in straight, and not pushing your other teeth around.. theres no reason to remove them. If they're impacted they HAVE to be removed.. I have all 4 of my wisdom teeth.. all grew in nice and straight..
change to your real aliases or i will be forced to ban........
i had mine removed a couple years ago. if there isn't enough room in your mouth then those teeth will come in all sideways and mess your other teeth up. though if there is enough room then there's no problem, either way you should see a dentist and get their opinion.
I think it is better. I'm 18 now and I wore braces years ago. If my wisdom teeth is to grow(Dentist said it wouldn't in my case), then it would mess up the alignment of my teeth. However, if it does grow perfectly without messing up or make crooked ur teeth then you can keep them. My sister had her wisdom teeth removed too late, bottom front teeth shifted a little.
Getting it done in less than an hour would save you having to probably even get braces after your teeth is 'messed up'.
I was awake the whole time during my extractions. It didn't hurt except for whatever they injected into my gums prior to. I thought I would feel it, but it was fine and my dentist was talking about stories during it.
Just know that the only pain you'll get is basically after the extraction.
Oh by the way, once you stop bleeding, you will just have a big hole present in your mouth. I got food stuck there a LOT, so I had to go back and they gave me this thing that syringe that squirted water to get it out.
lol i find this funny because i have the same problem, only i was told by the dentist to get mine taken out but i chose not too and now i have a horrible pain in the back of my mouth and it hurts to swallow
#33,#34 Yeah difference is mine is still starting to grow, I was just worried of my most possible outcome lol.
However, there is a very tiny piece of the tooth coming out and it's RIGHT next to the neighbor tooth, they seem to be touching but it also seems to be going straight... Very little pain, but i'm guessing that's the impaling the flesh "sensation" you get from teething.
most people get them removed because it shifts your teethline, and usually causes slanting, cramping, and other weird mis-alignment problems. I kept mine because they grew in perfectly, except 1 that got a cavity, the doc just pulled it. Your not going to miss them, it doesnt make you cool having them, get them removed if ur dentist says its smart, dont do it if he says its a non issue.
The problem I have with my wisdom teeth, and what most people also face concerning them, is they grow in at an angle. Instead of breaking the gum-line and coming out straight up, some have there's come in towards their other teeth.
I kind of skimmed through the thread so I'm not sure if you mentioned if they were coming straight out or at an angle. The ones that grow at an angle will start to apply pressure to the tooth adjacent to it and basically eat it away, leaving a gapping hole in one of your teeth.
I'd recommend seeing a dentist. I see one twice every year (checkups) and they took x-rays and have given me the place to go to to get mine removed. My bottom ones are coming in at a 45 degree angle and my top ones just won't have enough room so I'll be getting all 4 taken out together.
I've heard that the earlier you get them removed, the easier it will be on you and your teeth.
it depends on how they are coming in, you need to go to a dentist and have them check it out, mine were compacted so i had to have them both removed.. i did it all in one visit, took 10 minutes, was painless.. you just hear a loud crunch when its happening
when i said quick and painless i ment the procedure.. it might be annoying for a little bit after htey are removed, will be tough to eat but its not that bad.. they also give you drugs incase the pain starts to get bad, i never had to use them (for the pain) lol
#4 that's scientifically proven to be wrong. now a days its a medical procedure to perform for doctors to make money off insurance companies. in fact its proven that getting circumcised will cause you to loose up to 50% sensitivity. its a pointless old tradition that needs to stop. in fact penn and teller had a show about it on Bullsh*t
Teething

Advice appreciated, cheers!
It's not painful or anything, just feels weird for a week.

I got all four of my wisdom teeth removed in about 45 minutes. I got a good amount of vicodin too.
My wisdom teeth started growing when I was like 12.
My teeth are all messed up :S
That's just me though, I have sh*tty genes... chances are your teeth will stay fine.

Can't you just fill the hole with something natural? I know they have something to fill holes inside the teeth =o.
How does it feel? lol.
#31 Thank god someone to reassure me, 90% of this thread suggest ordering a small shovel to dig 4 holes in my mouth =X.

if they're not out they will take an X-ray image to see how they might grow.
