Delay from distance!

Hey guys, this question will be very straight forward. If you have say higher ping due to distance and not due to lag, would u have delay?

I have 60 ping on German servers and 75-90 ping on other servers of Europe, basically because I'm not from Europe but we have an Italian provider which is why I have even worse ping in Africa/Middle east.

Anyway I've played for a few years and my team scrims a lot, on a normal scrim i generally beat the reactions of the other players when they have 40-60 ping and i have 85.

Though many times when we play local teams like say a Swedish team, and they have 8-15 ping all of them while I have like 90 and my team have about 50.... I won't lie we got our asses handed to us, their reactions seem so quick that they're dodgy.

Does 75-85 ping have the same delay like someone with 50? Does someone with 40 ping have the same delay like someone with 20?

Thanks in advance.

75 ping = 75 milliseconds delay
5 ping = 5 milliseconds delay

#2 If that's true, then shouldn't cl_cmdrate 30 and cl_updaterate 20 HELP rather than make it worse?

#3 You lose packets with those commands.

It's better to just receive/send the real thing at bigger delays.

At least that's what I think.. not really sure :S

#4 so the ones with 10 ping actually beat me because they see me before i see them right? or is it just a false overstatement and they must have some whacky wallhack with a nice prefire O.o.

they see you before you see them, and you move later then what you think, so when you run behind a wall, they are actually still shooting you even tho all you see is wall.

#5 Yes they can pretty much see you before you see them. I have a weird provider that gives me between 100 and 30 ping on (American) west coast servers, and let me tell you, it makes a world of difference.

#6 That is another thing I experience. You have to play 2 totally different games with the different pings.

#2 is right
high pings mean high delays so yes, the ones who have lower ping are seeing everything before you as ping is a measure of the delay between the server and you.
there are useful links on my profile (for 1.6) so check it out

#6 OMG that happened so many times to me and i had no idea why!.. I was scrimming on dust2. I was at long watching people coming from long (i was ct), they pop out and i shoot a bit and run behind the wall back to A site, i keep getting shot and find myself dieing BEFORE the wall when i so obviously jumped behind it.

Thanks for the help guys, I'm going to Denmark this month where i have a house there since I'm half Danish. Will sign up for 25mbit and see how I'll do without delay :).

#10 No problem, it's good to have some people ask serious questions and not just troll some random sh*t over and over again.

you have to remember that this is in milliseconds... it 't make THAT big of a change unless you are in the 90+ range. A millisecond is a very small amount of time. Also, I would contest the fact that they see you first, as it makes no sense logically.
lets say your opponent has a ping of ~~15 ms
you have a ping of ~~ 90 ms

time it takes your opponent to receive updates on where your hitboxes are is equal to your ping + server processing time + their ping (from your house to the server location to their house)

time it takes your computer to receive updates on their hitbox positions is equal to their ping +server processing time + your ping (their house to server to your house)

However, their reflexes seem faster because shooting is only a one-sided pathway and will not include your large ping at all, as all it is is a single command from their house to the server where it is added into play.

time for you to see them after it should happen in "real time" 105 ms
time for them to see you after it should happen in "real time" 105 ms
time it takes for a "shot" to register for them 15 ms
time it takes for a "shot" to register for you 90 ms

or at leasst thats how i understood it :) I may be taking this outa my rear, idk

and if these are correct, then yes they can shoot you even when you think you are behind a wall because their shot would be entering the server BEFORE your coordinate change does, by about 75 ms, which is where the appearance of "lag shots" come from, along with why it seems that you can sometimes hit someone even if you aren't aiming right at them.
