Leaving your computer ON all the time is actually better for it then turning it off when you go to bed. The lifespan of the hardware is shortened when they are constantly heated up and cooled down by turning on and off.
The only reason to turn your computer off every night is to save electricity. However, most computers don't actually use up that much electricity. It's the CRT monitors that are power hogs. Even the newer computers that have high wattage power supplies and usage usually come with software that under-clocks the part when they are idle, thus lowering the power usage.
1337krew it doesnt matter... there was a tv show that proved masturbating before a football game had no affect on their play(coaches used to restrict it).. so im sure for counter-strike you will be fine
-and back to topic- yeah youre right leaving your computer on doesn't really do much except eat your electricity... although you should restart every once in a while for applications to reset etc.
#9 yeah I saw that too but I personally think you'd be better off masturbating before the match or game. I might be different then others but I think it can help to calm you down and help you focus.
I tried (and succeeded but with a wet dream..) to go for 30/40 days without masturbating and it seemed to affect my brain.
I think it's worth noting that I would leave my computer on 24/7 and I used a 21" CRT monitor(major power hog) and I still got a month free electricity given to me by my electric company as a thank you for using below a certain amount (was like $30 that month I think). I think the fridge and lights (which I got those special curvy ones) were the only other things that took up electricity in the apartment.
yeh I didn't learn it today or anything... I'm just reminded of it when ppl exit irc at night, and someone asked me about it recently so decided to post. But about that PSU thing, I don't remember all the details but I read something that was explaining how you can't just use the overall wattage rating on the PSU (ex: 450w), but you have to see like something about the rails or something... and each part uses a different part of the PSU so ya... it's somewhat complicated. That's one reason why people tend to go overboard on PSU's I think.
- every PSU that has the same general output is not equal.
i actually thought so too, which is why i keep my new computer on more often than not.. since i use it basically every day.. if i am planning on not using it for a very long period though than i'll shut it off
the only thing you should really worry about is hard drive(s) failing, but as long as you periodically back up important data, you're fine, hd's are cheap as hell now. HDD Health - http://www.panterasoft.com/download.html = good program to monitor hard drive health (HD's do die randomly though, has happened to me)
only turn it off for hardware upgrades/cleaning dust/vacation
i think i'm addicted to the sound of fans running now, it's hard for me to sleep without that noise ;-/
I don't see why not #29. Except for that if you're moving around and you can't have your laptop plugged in all the time you'd want to turn it off or at least hibernate it to save battery. Laptops also automatically go into standby/hibernation when the top is closed.
Also as far as batteries go, I think it's best if they're not left plugged in all the time... I think you're supposed to completely drain and completely recharge them every once in a while to keep their power capacity at max.
You might be able to take out the battery and leave it plugged in for no negative affects?
I don't know about the whole US but maybe viobear in socal... a lot of people think he cheats or say he's amazing and should be on a pro team, wondering why he's not known, etc.
this is pretty common knowledge but judging by the replies in this thread i guess it isnt as common as i thought. computers were designed for 24/7 operation. what do you think a server is? you think servers are only on for part of the day? those things run 24/7 for years before they die and they are never in standby mode. so i think you can safely leave your crappy e-machine or HP on overnight and never shut it down.
laptops on the other hand i probably would not leave it on overnight. they heat up quickly and the more you leave it on the faster it heats up. all of the laptops i have used are extremely slow when they are running hot.
i once left my computer on for 4 months without restarting and used it daily and it was just fine.
Frod vs. 4Kings on cbble. One of the best POV"s I've ever seen.
Yeah I leave my comp on for weeks at a time, I'm always afraid every time I restart that it will somehow fuck up and get some hardware error or some bs and I'll have to waste time and money fixing it >:|

- if it's cs related, ask Max, he knows all ;)
I'm pretty sure any problem would simply be solved by restarting your computer and not shutting it down completely.
Is it better to masturbate before matches or don't masturbate a few days before the match then wait till after?

the time when all the hardware is the most stressed is when it is booting up/at ignition.
also, isnt hibernate better than shutdown?
Both are bad for the machine
