can lead to obesiety which in turn can lead to depression and then lead to suicide, or can lead to health problems like heart attacks, heart problem are the number one significant cause of death.

Stupid idea. Thats like banning the use of cars.

economy = failure if you did that

We all know obesity and other unhealthy lifestyle issues can lead to health problems #10 but for people to go around saying that if everyone just lived healthy lifestyles we wouldn't need national health care or some major changes in our health system is complete bullshit.

I grew up with major emphasis on eating healthy, getting plenty of sun and exercise, and I am currently disabled with unknown diagnosis. So go fck yourself. This country and our medical system is a fcking joke.

Here's the best solution:

-Hand over the states of Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, and Arkansas to Mexico.
-Execute anyone who drags down our society; ie. people on welfare, people who abuse government assistance, people who refuse to get jobs, criminals, and the homeless.
-Use all of our tax money we put into medicaid/welfare and use it to instead offer free health care to all of us good citizens still left.

This way we clean up the trash without spending a dime, and still offer health care without raising any taxes. We also will be able to afford to cleanse our society by using the money that will no longer be needed to house prisoners (since they'll be executed) to fund our project.

Once again I've saved the World.

America has the worst healthcare by far as compared to other developed countries . America has one of the worst child mortality rates, life expectancies etc out of the “modern” countries. These phenomenas are proportional to the quality of care given. Republicans would have you believe otherwise. While voracious republicans use their blood money to pollute their society with obesity and futility. A middle income family struggles with debt associated to medical bills and falls through the cracks of society. All this from a nation, whose own hypocrisy and conceit will lead to its eventual downfall parallel to Shakespeare’s most tragic of heroes.
All of you are subjecting this topic into a nice Nash equilibrium with little forethought into the matter. Reiterating common fallacies concerning American Health care: “America has the best healthcare.” You’re all too concerned with money, finance and the division of it between multi-million dollar corporations. Whereas the latter should go to the less fortunate regardless of whether they deserve it or not. Now the fear is that we’re going to harbour lazy ineffectual citizens relying on welfare but time and time has history shown us that a balanced society which provides for his/her people will be cured of societies’ other ailments (crime, homelessness etc).

wtf does a health care system have to do with babies dying? if u think about it if there's something so wrong with an infant that its going to die when its born then its probably too bad to fix. ppl need to look at their own personal choices. could it be all the unhealthy choices ppl make these days? probably.

#27 is right, and fyi stupid republicans socialism works quite well for a number of countries. Where has it failed? All you guys care about is paying as little taxes as possible... but you really don't give a sht about all the other major problems that come with capitalism. You're all living in a damn fantasy world where every family and person has the ability (and DOES IT) to get and keep a job that pays them well enough to buy everything they need and provide everything their children need. Yet it's known that not even middle class hard working families are able to do that...

#33 when you have everyone going to doctors you can provide incentives to the doctors that reduce the weight of their patients to healthy levels, etc. Watch the movie "sicko". Wonder why the European countries who have national health care don't have major obesity, etc? When doctors are pressuring patients to get/stay healthy because it benefits them, it also benefits everyone else.

#19 yes, it can be bad for your skin and potentially cause cancer, but that's why you're not supposed to stay in the sun for long periods of time 2-3 hours before and after the sun peaks in the day. The sun is actually very important and has numerous health benefits. Direct sun on the skin causes your body to produce vitamin D and stimulate other hormones. Vitamin D deficiency has been shown to be a large cause of cancer. And yes... there is a catch-22... too much sun and too little sun can both cause cancer. But as long as you only stay in the sun 2-3 hours before and after the sun peaks in the day, and only until your skin gets pink you should be fine.

theres some nice non biased factual information

As you can see Europe struggles with obesity too. If you like the European way of government so much, then perhaps you should move there or move to Canada which is a great alternative. America is suppose to be the land of business, turning into some socialist country defeats all the benefits of living in America. You hate corporations? You hate big business well in a socialist environment these are the only companies that have enough money to dwell into business. The cost of running and operating business without the capitol they provide is nearly impossible in countries in Europe.

#36 lol how are insurance companies profiting from the sick? They profit from healthy people who don't get sick but still write them a check every month. Sick people lose them money.

#39 you would have to drink quite a bit of milk to get your daily requirement of vitamin D... and you'd be getting way more then the daily calcium which can lead to other medical problems. There are skin lotion/treatments that undo/prevent the damage of uv rays.

#40 look who's way ahead on that list. Also, yeah they don't benefit from sick people so they're constantly fighting to provide as little care to everyone as they legally can. Which obviously is a major problem....

If you kill off every poor person and turn them into compost, who will tend the crops the next year and the year after? Who will serve you your happy meal?

They profit from everyone. California is the only state that requires insurance companies to report the amount of claims being rejected. 31 million claims are rejected by California's biggest insurance companies annually. The population of California is about 37 million.

#47 exactly. All of the necessary, low paying jobs alone make a capitalist society implausible. Not to mention the numerous other problems. Fairness, selflessness, humanitarianism, equal opportunity, and general well being for all citizens cannot be achieved under capitalism. It is a great idea... that everyone can succeed and have everything they need if they only work hard enough, but it doesn't work, there are just too many problems that arise when everyone is struggling to make as much money as possible.

#48 You are so brainwashed its laughable. First of all a lot of farmers make quite a good living. It's just honest hard work. But they are not struggling. Low paying jobs always exist. What makes you feel like someone working at mcdonalds deserves the right to make as much money as someone who actually works a hard job like a lawyer. Your socialist ideals are what's fail. This is reality, survival of the fittest. They are not enough resources to go around appease everyone. Everyone in america is giving an equal opportunity, if you are born intelligent enough. You can come from the lowest gutter, do well in school. Go to college for almost free, and even if you aren't the smartest person you can still apply for loans and go to college, land yourself a good job and you have made it in this world. Face the realities. People who work at Mcdonalds are not smart or hard working people. They tend to be drug addicts, lazy, or highly unmotivated people. They belong where they are. If there is a will, there is a a way. Anyone can make it in this world, but nothing is given to you and you have to earn it.

This comment was edited at 11/01/2009 7:23 PM

QUOTE:
They are not enough resources to go around appease everyone.

Yes there are. If there weren't then other countries who have a less GDP per capita and still provide all the necessities for their citizens would be failing miserably.

I don't agree with your assumptions that all people working at McDonalds or other low paying jobs are lazy etc. However, a lot of them might be poorly educated etc. and that has to do with their upraising, which is a major problem that is being ignored as well.

The majority of farmers also have to work multiple jobs because their income from farming alone is usually not enough. And still your logic is flawed. If everyone was properly raised and educated and worked hard and was successful there would be no one to do the low paying jobs. It just isn't possible for all problems to be solved under capitalism. The people who support capitalism don't care about the people who don't make it because you're all brainwashed to believe that it's their fault and they deserve to be there when in reality that is not true. There are many societal issues that contribute to not everyone being able to be successful. Mostly the inadequate raising and education of children and teenagers, depending on what circumstances you were raised under, etc.

Also, for people not to support nationalized health care is absurd. Many if not most health care issues are not the fault of the individuals and can be solved cheaper if not completely prevented by proper care being given to everyone. You people like to bring up the obesity issue as the problem of all health issues since it reinforces your brainwashed assumptions of everyone being able to provide for themselves everything they need, but seriously... why do I even have to point out how silly that is...

I really doubt I'm the brainwashed one... I didn't grow up in this country... I was actually taught close to nothing about it, but when I came here and lived here for years now, I'm constantly running into so many major societal problems. I'm really not alone either... pretty much every other country in the world agrees with the ideals I, most democrats, and Obama advocate. It's the unfortunately-many brainwashed republicans and conservatives who are going against the rest of the world's ideals in wanting to provide all the basic necessities for all it's citizens.

Most people and countries are constantly trying to modernize and improve and fix all the problems. It's the republicans/conservatives who are stuck in a flawed and outdated mindset or simply do not have any compassion or care about the people who get stepped on, abused, and fcked over. Which happens and will continue to happen extremely often in any capitalist society. It is a basic concept that if you have a ton of people struggling over anything that people are going to get fcked over. And most of us actually care about our fellow human beings and wish that everyone has everything they need...
