their discussion brings up a good point towards the end. i don't really think that should be called "statutory rape" at all. when a jury sees the word "rape", they think of a crime being committed. there are a lot of things to account for if it was consensual. if they can make an argument and provide proof it was consensual and the person who did it is not a nutcase or is not on the prowl to having sex with 13 yr olds every night outside of a middle school when the bell rings, then the sentencing should be far less than what was given. 20 years is a bit harsh. i can see 20 years if he/she does it again, but come on, i can't think of anyone who was 13 that didn't know right from wrong.
