"Well, now we've signed a CS player that will show you exactly how serious we are. This week, coL.1 will announce who this player is, and it will shock all of CS. The Syndicate will make this player the highest paid player in CS history."
When I came across this a few minutes ago I shook my head...
Angel Munoz, Trevor Schmidt, Craig Levine, Andreas Thorstensson, Frank Nuccio...it's very easy to see what these people have in common, from establishing professional global gaming teams supported by multi-million dollar companies to creating world-wide gaming events that are only getting bigger and better by the day. These are some of the pioneers of the professional electronic gaming world, to this date they strive to help this industry grow as a WHOLE...which brings me to my next point.
To lend a hand in anything in life you need knowledge and experience, it’s fair to say that the people above have both of these qualities locked down in respects to the gaming world. Without the two, no matter how much authority you may think you will not get very far at all.
Jason "1" lake, it's not what you think you know...it's what you can prove. Here is a thought, instead of talking like a nine-year old (no disrespect to normal 9 year olds :p ) please enlighten us with your VAST wisdom on the topic. No, this doesn't mean anybody cares what you eat, ate or what you drive...this means SHOW us from a gamers and spectators point of view how you plan to 'upgrade' this business. Perhaps I missed something, but all you've done my friend is sent 'hard American cash' as you so put it, to...establish an 'online pug'...some online contests and reach minor agreements with teams in exchange for 'hard cash' of course, now HEY! If I were a player on any of these teams I'd be pretty happy :p I mean who doesn't like money?
But hold on a second... what makes me 'laugh out loud' is how you can consider this a RELEVENT approach into HELPING THE GAMING INDUSTRY GROW. Now correct me if I’m wrong...but how can someone likes yourself who's NEVER been to any major gaming event consider themselves a business man in this industry? Despite what you may have heard Jason, the gaming world does not revolve around counter-strike or computer gaming for that fact. I'm thrilled that you want to help, but try putting down the 'mr.big boss man' act and get some advice from some of the pioneers, I'm sure you can put your money into good use with the right information...but publicity stunts like these will not get you any closer to your 'vision'. I'd suggest you try establishing a real competitive gaming team to start...then when you're in the professional scene with your TEAM...you'll begin to see potential in places where you haven't looked...heck running a small local event with that money will help not just ONE player but entertain many others and with that you should get one step closer to that 'vision' of yours.
So very true. There is a difference in CAL and CPL. If coL plans on attending CPL then they can hire players. But in an amateur leauge thats lame. coL wants popularity, and instead of earning it they buy it. Post like this do give them what they want. I mean check out their site they have a counter..... they want popularity in the community, yet the havent showed much in cs.
no disrespect to the teams that are sponsored, i would take free cash as well. coL work on proving yourself rather than just making big annoucnements about players and movie contests.
col.1 isnt helping anything by buying and trading players and breaking team relationships. teams work together to acomplish something as a TEAM, they dont try to piece together something just because they can't do it like everybody else. col.1 reminds me of that one kid on the playground who doesnt have any friends and sees that everybody else is good at making friends so he decides to bake them cookies or give them toys so they will hang with him. what he doesnt know is that everybody uses him because they like the stuff and not him....just a thought :P
oh and ps, nobody that plays this game 15-23 or so gives a flying crap about what kinda of car you drive or what you have :p
Much agreed on the CXG anology. You don't just pay your way to the top. You establish yourself in the community and work your way up. Look at Siege and Torbull for managers and look at the CPL and WCG. Look at all the successful pro sports leagues which started with 4-8 teams and expanded as they made more money. Just because you are paying a lot of money for to teams doesn't mean they are going to get sponsors.
he should do it without offending most of the CS community, if he wants popularity don't insult the most beloved team in America and expect people to respect you or even like you
#13 if u listen to what he says in the iview, he clearly states that the future will all be LAN. also, who cares what he spends his money on, its his cash, he is makin some kid alot of cash to play this game online, who really cares, 1 lil problem tho, when the kid relizes that he has the money, and element broke his contract with very lil legal problems, why can't he? is hwen esports is going to have a shadow casted on it
OMG cookie father my children you are soooooo right!!!!!
coL ! is the biggest mopney wh0re in ther CS community. Brigning money into play as a major factor is going to ruin the CS scene. And i thought cobalt and concrete were bad...... (crunge will get this if noone else)
#18 He said the immediate future will be LAN. He thinks the long-term will be online. He didn't say it aloud, but you could tell he was leading up to it.
Sounds like a lot of people are jealous of coL|1. The arguments tossed out here are not that great at all. Good teams in all professional sports buy their players!!! They also trade players, hire and fire coaches. All the expansion teams that start up in any pro sport are what you people call "PUGS" So what was your point again about you have to earn your way to the top.
its gonna be heaton lol hes gonna buy heaton and of course he cant play w/out potti so both of them for 1 million dollars each u heard it from me first ROFL seriously tho, recon looks like a saint compared to this guy...at least he TRIED to do somethign for the community lol...
and it is true that col 1. just wants attention, that is what all people like him want, i can understand why he has such a big ego tho, im a lot like that, after you become successful at things you want to be successful at you begin to think you can do anything, i like to think that any person can achieve any goal if they put their mind to it, but thats just not true all the time
. . good post.. I dont know if i like the guy or not or what hes doing but i am tired of hearing about what hes doing... so then why did i read this post.. =/
on the part about recruiting random people, he basically recruited the old [GB] with his little buddies and knox, but still, theres something wierd about him, how he just shows up one day :)
Yeah, I'm not sure as to why it's stickied, but I'll look into it.
While I respect his attempts to advance eSports, simply throwing money at it is not the proper way to go around it. Giving big contracts and buying yourself a team is not advancing eSports; it is simply advancing your own team and your popularity. The team-sponsoring thing is good, but he needs to be much more modest and respective of some of the more established teams in the community (most notably 3D). Choosing not to sponsor them is fine, as they are well off on their own, but blatently insulting their skill level after they handle u5 online is not the way to give yourself nor your sponsored teams a good, reputable name. If you truly wish to advance eSports, look into earning respect, rather than trying to buy it.
hey may be hurting the sport in some aspects....but he sponsors serious established teams with funds to travel to lans and sht. more teams attending lan events is a good thing
Jason "coL`1" Lake and his VISION

Michael
for some reason this guy reminds me of the Hill's
maybe he is Recon!
no disrespect to the teams that are sponsored, i would take free cash as well.
coL work on proving yourself rather than just making big annoucnements about players and movie contests.
it is a professional sport. cpl wcg do not need coL 1 helping out the sport.
g0t resentment? :P
ever heard of hltv?
HE THINKS THE FUTURE IS ONLINE, NOT ON LAN
i suppose he also has a plan to increase the speed of light?...
oh and ps, nobody that plays this game 15-23 or so gives a flying crap about what kinda of car you drive or what you have :p

elude i think you would be singing a different tune if you were allowed in his movie contest, or won it rather.
#22 is correct

Even if he stated coL was ever going to LAN, he should've watched for picking out the former most overt users and abusers of ventrilo in CALi.
