Counter-Strike: UGS-Pro S5 Semifinal Predictions

By: Trevor Schmidt - Published March 24, 2004 at 4:41 AM EST - Writer Archive
Four remain and Brooks takes his shot at who will survive the night. While both of his predictions might not surprise you he does expect a close pair of matches, as do I. Look for the second match, TSG against u5 to be one of the best matches to date in the UGS season.
By Stuart Brooks

We are down to the final four in UGS-Pro, as we see some of the best teams in North America face off for the oppurtunity to play for the UGS-Pro league title. Rival has been favorites almost all season, proving that they belong up there with the likes of United 5 and 3D. United 5 is out to prove that their top placing US team at CPL was no fluke. TSG is also out to prove that their CAL-I championship last season had nothing to do with luck and Forsaken is here to defend their title from last season. Rival and Forsaken face off and u5 takes on tsg. The map is inferno this week, which shall provide some exciting save round action. On to the predictions!

Team Rival: (7-0-0)   vs.   Forsaken: (4-2-0)
Rival has looked very impressive all season long with wins over u5, EG, and TSG. Rival seemed a little shaky on inferno when playing it in CAL, as they had a close win over EG but got blown out against 3D. Rival has all the right moves to completely set the tempo of the match, as each and every player has the skill to get big kills when they really need it. Forsaken has been full of suprises all season long. Some departures early on left people wondering what the fate of this team would be. Well they seem to be back on track, picking up a dominating performance over GameWyze just last week. Word on the street is mason went back to forsaken, but who knows if he will actually be playing. Rival should be able to do what they want on T side, with quick attacks to catch Forsaken off guard and secure the bombsites. Calling the bomb will be absolutely critical for Forsaken if they want to stand chance. Rival will move on for a chance to take the UGS title.
 Brooks's Prediction: Rival, 16-11

The Stomping Grounds: (6-2-0)   vs.   United 5: (5-3-0)
This match up should be very exciting to watch and everyone should tune in and watch it. TSG started off very slow this season at 2-2. As of late they have really surged and come together as a team in UGS. They absolutely destroyed zEx last week, who went into OT against Rival on the very same map. United 5 similarly won against e7 in convincing fashion last week, 24-6. u5 already has a loss from TSG this season all the way back in week 3 and will want that sweet sweet revenge. u5 had a week much like Rival on inferno, with one win against ICE and a loss against 3D as well. u5 has a nice mixture of awps and rifles that suit that setup of inferno very well as does TSG. This match will come up to who wins the save rounds (yes thats right I said save rounds) and u5 already proved they can win those momentum swinging save rounds. Some clutch play from both sides will keep this match to the last few rounds but u5 will prevail for the chance to add a league title to their top placing CPL finish. Brooks's Prediction: United 5, 16-12
