Counter-Strike: SK.swe looks to EYE CPL Championship

By: Trevor Schmidt - Published August 01, 2004 at 2:56 AM EDT - Writer Archive
After four days of matches and exhausting play, it all comes down to two teams. Who has the edge both emotional and physically before the final event? SK.swe and EYE each look to put their mark on the post money system CS.
After all the hype of “randomness” of CS since the money changes, guess what its #1 seed against #3 seed here at the CPL. Even more so we again find two Swedish teams battling it out for the right to win the most prestigious event of the season. SK.swe against EYE.

It’s a little different than expected with SK.swe now in a position of must win. Losing to EYE in the Winner’s Bracket final, SK.swe must now win two matches against that same team on a different map, de_inferno. The original match took place on de_dust2 with a final score of 13-9, first half of 5-7 to SK.swe but 8-2 for EYE second half. The loss forced SK.swe into a Consolation match against Rival for a chance at the finals.

After a long exhaustive match with three overtimes SK.swe prevailed, even against the wishes of a never anti-CPL crowd. Rival was cheered as they reentered the BYOC after the match, but SK.swe remained defiant looking forward to the final. Overall the score was 22-19 with 8-4 half scores leading up to a 10-7 overtime score.

The rematch was then set as both teams look to walk away with a win. Andreas “bds” Thorstensson felt much more comfortable in a rematch with EYE then the de_cpl_mill match just before the Rival match began. Both sides will need to come prepared on de_inferno in what should be a demo cramp session.

Past history shows that EYE has proven a worthy match to SK.swe winning many matches including the showcase match at CXG. SK.swe has won two championships over EYE in the past though including CPL Copenhagen and SEL Season 4, but EYE now looks to return the favor with a one match cushion.
