Counter-Strike: GotFrag debuts GameSense™

GotFrag is proud to introduce GameSense™, the definitive statistical database for competitive eSports. GameSense™ tracks detailed statistics on players and teams in competitive eSports. A GotFrag.com project, GameSense™ was created to give real statistical backing to the often-voiced question "Who's the best player in the world?" Moreover, the information in GameSense is used in GotFrag.com's proprietary Content Management System to provide the latest and most detailed information in eSports news and coverage.

Inside of GameSense™, you can find in-depth information on your favorite (or least favorite) players, teams and events. It provides detailed statistics based on official matches and events from tournaments around the world. How many Frags do they have? How many Aces? Who has the best K:D ratio? Who has the worst? Who has the highest FAR? GameSense™ is the definitive source for the answers to these questions and many more.

Throughout this Winter 2004 CPL, we'll be updating the stats as each match finishes. Check back at GameSense™ frequently for updated information! You'll also find GameSense stats in our Melee coverage of the event.

Check out GameSense™ now!

A little history...

GameSense™ was originally conceived by Jason "Warthog" Roman, Trevor "Midway" Schmidt, Lee Chen and Jason Coene. During a series of late-night debates about who the best player really was, Trevor, Lee and Jason lamented that there was not a statistical basis for determining who the best was. Particularly given that the data needed to generate this information was already presentable on many public game servers, this seemed to be a deficiency without excuse.

More late night sessions were spent debating how a system should be designed, what would be required and how to present this information. Parts of those debates resulted in some innovative hand-calculated statistics in the trademark feature "Midway's Melee" on GotFrag.com. Several months later, after one aborted attempt to build a statistical system by GotFrag, Jason "Warthog" Roman, who had been independently developing a general statistical system for almost a year, brought his beta to Trevor.

Hours later, Project GameSense™ was born. Roman quickly became core to the development of the project and worked closely with Trevor on the statistical breakdowns and formulas. Trevor researched the statistical models in mainstream sports extensively, drawing pertinent formulas and stats from baseball, basketball, football and many other sports. 200 code hours later, Roman and Coene had developed the first public release of GameSense™. As the project entered its alpha stages, Phil "aztk" Therien brought his graphical expertise to the table to design the look and feel of the project, creating the layout that you see today.

#3, The game that this debuts on isn't really the point. It's the fact that stats are now being tracked.

i'm interested to know if you guys will be able to use previous game stats to factor into this? or will it only work from this point onwards?

#10, actually, we think it will have the opposite effect. While multi-frag rounds are tracked, you'll also note that bomb plants, ASSISTS and many other "team-oriented" stats are factored in. Take a look at the glossary.

so this works off scorebots I assume? How can you guarantee that all matches will have a scorebot? It's a great idea but it's pointless unless each and every match has statistics, that's why worry.

hm... cool, but unfortunately its not everybody that understands that those kinds of statistics are not a parameter to see who's better than who.

I am guessing from #43's comments it is all done manually. while that works for cpl... what happens come cal-i/cal-p/esl/other individual league matches, and other lan events. Would that not be impossibly hard to track complete stats like this w/o employing at least 10 people specifically for this "gamesense" ?
