Counter-Strike: Lake on Sunman, 3D losses reason for change

Jason "1" Lake sits down with us to talk about the recent addition of Justin "Sunman" Summy and how his team will do with their newest member.
Jason
Jason "1" Lake, owner of Team Complexity, watches over his team at CPL Winter 2004.
How tough has it been losing 10 out of 12 maps to 3D over the past month?

Well I could lie and try to be cool, but in all honesty it's been very tough on all of us. We've lost more in 2 months than we did in the previous 12.

Have those matches forced you to make a change in the roster and bring back Sunman?

Yes, if we had kept winning everything I doubt I would have looked to make any changes.

If Complexity had won one of those four best of three series would bringing back Sunman happen?

No, because to win those matches we would have needed a certain level of chemistry. When I see lapses in chemistry, strats, timing, etc, I start re-evaluating our roster.

Do you feel that it's overreaction to remove exodus and bring back Sunman when Complexity has only lost to 3D and has yet to lose a match to any other team since ESWC?

Yes, I think that's a very valid point and it does concern me. Exodus is an amazing player with an incredible work ethic and personality. I want to make it VERY clear that this isn't about Exodus not being good enough for compLexity. His talent is as good as any of our current starters. This was a decision made on chemistry. Chemistry I analyze in scrims every night. Chemistry I see in online matches and lan play.

Was this an overreaction?

I won't know until after CPL. All I can do is my best and I honestly feel this is the best squad we can suit up for CPL. I owe it to my family and our fans to bring the best team I can. Although I honestly feel Derek didn't have the time needed to prove himself I stand by my decision.

Honestly how important was Sunman's girlfriend to his departure from Complexity originally?

I think that situation may have prevented him from devoting the time he wanted to to pursuing both compLexity and school, but I can't speak for him on that.

Did Sunman approach you about rejoining or did you speak to him first?

Justin let me know he really missed coL and CS but didn't push at all. He respected the lineup and just wanted me to know he was available if we needed him.

What are your goals for this new team and do you feel that you can reach them?

Our immediate goal is to get Justin worked back into our system and regain the teamwork and chemistry that won us the ESWC World Championship. We're going to CPL for 1st place and nothing less. If we don't win, it won't be for a lack of effort.

I'd like to thank our loyal sponsors: Gamecomm, Steel, IceMat, Hi-Def Gaming (yes, the best servers in the world), Comcage and IMG. Thanks very much for the interview.
