Counter-Strike: CPL Seeds: Hard to Predict

By: Jason Baker - Published December 10, 2005 at 12:04 AM EST - Writer Archive
CPL coverage veteran and seed Soothsayer Jason ”Alchemist“ Baker attempts to predict the seeds for the most competitive CPL in history.

For the first time in 2005 most of the top teams will be in one place. Winter CPL at the Hyatt will be our first taste of what to expect from teams during the 2006 World Tour events and hopefully the start of some new rivalries. One of the most difficult things to do at a CPL is seed the teams in a fair manner. In most cases up to five teams could be placed in any order and be considered correct, yet the difference of where you stand in the bracket of five places can change the outcome from 8th place to 13th to 16th place, and that amounts to a lot of money. I firmly believe that the top 3 teams truly earn their spot while 4 to 8th place can be a bit of a lotto depending on who you have to face.

The question is how is the CPL going to seed this event? Are they going to go straight off of CPL Summer and fill in the blanks? Are they going to take all the World Tour stops all the way back to last winter CPL to seed teams? Are outside events even going to be considered? All important questions and each answer could have a huge outcome on the final seeding.

First off let us take a look back in 2005 and see how teams did.
