Counter-Strike: World Rankings update heading into CPL

By: Trevor Schmidt - Published December 11, 2005 at 1:35 AM EST - Writer Archive
What could be the most competitive CPL on record takes place in less than a week, but it wouldn't be complete without a GotFrag World Rankings update. A shocking first took place in rankings history, no European team is featured in the top three.
Worldwide Rankings

The Europeans are already rioting like it’s a World Cup Soccer draw, but there’s a shift taking placing in CS. The Asian teams dominated the Europeans at WEG, while both American superpower teams continue to look amazing. While WCG was not supposed to influence the rankings too heavily, it seems Mouz’s mixed team didn’t put up the showing some had expected while 3D took home gold yet again. I have a feeling that Winter CPL will change these results dramatically by giving the Europeans their shot to show who is boss.

The top five basically remained the same. Aggression died leaving its spot open and everyone moved up, including EG and United5. Complexity’s CAL-I Championship didn’t change voters mind, LAN is what counts and coL has Winter CPL to prove that they can edge out 3D when it matters. Looking further down, the team formed out of Aggression, Enervate, sees it's first spot on the rankings while DeadZone’s absences from later stages of both CEVO and CAL-I playoffs allowed JMC to earn a spot.

A few strange results as once again we see a tie, something that has historically been very rare. NoA holds off Speed-Link and takes the higher position because of their previously higher position in the last edition of the rankings. Up top, NiP made some noise at WEG and then advanced to the Semi-finals as one of the lone bright spots for Europe during this last update period. Mousesports not only earned the same number of first place votes, they lost a single point from the last vote showing their grip on the top spot is faltering. They’ll need an impressive showing at CPL to hold off the rest of Europe. SK.swe also received a lot of support from the American voters but Team9 was the favorite in the European only vote.

General Ranking Notes:
1. Sorry, but there aren't any rankings for Australian, Asian or South American regions.
2. International teams do not qualify for North American or European rankings. They are ranked in the World Rankings exclusively. International teams are determined by the organization that runs them and their determination of their home of country of operation.
3. Rankings are voted on by top teams from around the World via an email/point process where each representative ranks the team with the team receiving points based on their individual ranking per representative.
