Counter-Strike: 2d Interview

By: Chris Allevi - Published December 11, 2005 at 7:04 PM EST - Writer Archive
2-Dimensions, a team that always seems to be in the middle of controversy, is back and attending CPL Winter 2005 with a brand new lineup that no one would ever expect. Hear what moofer has to say on their new look.

Can you please introduce yourself for some of the readers that may not know you?

Hey, my name is Marc "moofer" Cizravi, twenty year old from Toronto, Canada. I'm the current leader of 2d and I've been in game strategist for mostly every team I've ever played for. If i had to say something that really defined myself it would have to be that I'm...an outspoken individual...opinionated. Currently working full time for an IT Solutions firm.

What was the main factor in bringing 2D back from the dead?

2d decided to stop playing Counter-Strike back in May after most of our guys split apart. Summer was around the corner so some people also started to get away from the computer. Not having time to put into Counter-Strike, nor having the sponsors to attend big lans (only reason Counter-Strike is worth playing), we took a break. People started drifting away from each other, so most of us just played Counter-Strike randomly. I didn't play at all other than attending a random TFL or two. Basically a couple weeks ago Jack (b|1nk) approached me saying that we had means to go to CPL if we wanted. So I just said, "Yeah why not, free CPL lets go for fun." We threw together a lineup just to play. A week or so passed and I realized it wasn't worth practicing if we weren't going to play well, so we made some 'adjustments'. One player stepped down, and coincidently PaTyoJoN approached me saying he needed a team for CPL. So at first I told him how awful we were and that we had no chance of doing good. After a week of playing with him, there was great improvement but we still needed a little more work. We had to replace another player, needless to say we've been scrimmaging pretty well for the most part.

So what does the current CPL lineup look like for 2d?

Marc "moofer" Cizravi
Jack Wen Min "blink" Hsiao
Ryan "ForrestaLL" Forrestall
Halston "teknikal" Bellintani
Matt "PaTyoJoN" Iantosca

Could you give us a little description about each of your teammates?

Blink - Local Toronto guy who's just a really good gunner. He's been playing Counter-Strike before it was worth any money, old school 2d who owned the east coast two years ago. He's also the body guard of the team, if I see any pizza boxes in sight this CPL he's gonna be all over it.

Patyojon - Patyojon was the Sunman of the west, more online than Gotfrag forum trolls (hi divito). Until of course he got fifth at his first CPL Summer, 2004. Seventh, Winter 2004 and 9-12 Summer 2005 (HA DESTROYED, that was a five team tournament)

Forrestall - Forrestall is a local toronto player who's played nothing higher than cal-p, but hey we love fat kids so we're confident he's going to headshot this whole event.

Teknikal - Teknikal had his first breakout when I took him to CPL Summer 2004. We (the team) were basically pretty unaccomplished and took 13-16 at what was probably the most competitive CPL I've known. Until this winter of course. Anything DeadZone has accomplished since he's joined the team is basically because he's really, really, 1337.

So might patyojon turn into a long-term 2D player or just a CPL ringer?
As much as Matt absolutely freaking loves playing with me, he's bound to Rival. He's also not good enough for us to buy out his contract, so no, he'll just be a CPL stand-in for us. WE GONNA ROCK IT LIKE IT'S SUMMER 2004.

With two players bound to their own respective teams, is 2D going to just be a CPL team or are you guys going to start CAL and other online leagues again?
Ideally the team is going to be alive for CAL the following season. But you know how these things go, I intend to go to Summer CPL with a well prepared team, seeing as how everything is set in stone so far in advance. 300K purse 1.6? I'm there.

Who are you guys looking to pick then for the following CAL season and for anything after this Winter's CPL?

Deadzone is god awful so i don't think teknikal will want to return to them after we win the CPL. Toronto is like the Garden of Eden with twenty Adams, and I'm the snake in the appletree. I could basically take anyone if we had a good team with the sponsors to back it. Ideally though, dachi will be back from Hong Kong in March. Mako might stop playing World of Warcraft to play Counter-Strike, and Stewart 'EMZ' Houston is nuts, and well, I pray day in day out sbz would start playing Counter-Strike again. Any one or two of them will be good pick-ups.

What does a regular week of practicing look like for this CPL bound 2D team?

About three hours average a night, three nights a week, we're putting in all we can this week, plus extra time this weekend. Just so we're ready, most of our stuff is on the fly, just because, you know, my strategies are INTENSE.

You mentioned earlier that you didn't want to practice to not place well. What place are you hoping for?

I aim for as good as we play, we'll see what's up when we setup for our matches. You can't tell what's going to happen. Any given Sunday, win the two pistols, nail your shots, money moof the other team once or twice. Moofer boost, and guess what, 3D DOWN. Seeing as though we aren't even a team, or haven't practiced too much. I'm going in with no expectations, looking to have fun, people play the best without a huge amount of pressure on them anyways.

Is there any team you're looking forward to play or not to play?

I suppose I'd want to play NiP because I hear they play Dota 24/7 and bad Koreans beat them; so we should be able to random that. I wouldn't want to play Cyberglobe, but god knows fogle will never go to a CPL in his life...so we're safe.
If you guys had to rank yourselves right now with the other Canadian teams, where would you place yourselves? And with the lineup you expect to have after CPL, where would you place yourselves?

Second behind EG, since we've got half of Deadzone's skill in our lineup, and well, the rest of Canada is god awful at Counter-Strike. There's no way to rank ourselves ahead of EG anytime soon. They've accomplished way too much, unless we consistently beat them seventy-eight times like 3D beat coL in two weeks, EG is going to be the number one team for a while. That's the answer to both questions.

Has having patyojon in the lineup made you guys a bit more aggressive on defense, bringing in that west coast style of play or have you made him play the more east coast passive defense style?

Patyo is more of a smart player, he'll be aggressive when he needs to just like any other player I suppose, but it hasn't really changed us overall as a team.

So do you see yourselves as more of a strategy oriented team or an aim oriented team?

We definitely rely on our strategies more than our aim. We're going to go into the CPL with our strategies down (hopefully) and just try to hit the shots that count.

Just one fun question before the shout-outs. Do you secretly want to beat Rival and maybe prove to Patyojon he should stay with you guys after CPL?

Rival frags. I don't see us beating them.

Alright, and for the standard end-of-interview question. Any shout-outs?
