Counter-Strike: Latin American Teams at CPL

By: Augusto Zapata Delgado - Published December 13, 2005 at 1:12 AM EST - Writer Archive
GotFrag's Latin American staff breaks down MIBR and g3x, the two Latin American teams attending this CPL Winter. Look inside for statistical breakdown of the two teams previous CPL performances.

By GotFrag Latin American Staff

As always, a CPL Championship cannot take place without the presence of teams from the always rising Latin American Scene. Despite the previous tournaments where we have seen a growing number of teams from the Latin American region, this time we just have squads from Brazil going to the main event. Those teams are Made in Brazil and g3x . Unfortunately, REVOLTZ was unable to attend the event due to some migration problems.

 Made in Brazil - MiBR

Eduardo "eduzin" Chagas
Raphael "Cogu" Camargo
Rafael "pava" Pavanelli
Thiago "btt" Monteiro (Away)
Welington "ton" Caruso (Away)
Jorge "Jorginho" Elias
Eduardo "Corassa" Corassa

The well known Brazilian powerhouse cannot be missing at this event. Coming from a good campaign on the CPL World Tour stops, and also being the only team in the World that won two tournaments at that competition. The last victory against United5 on the Chilean stop pushed the team to another level, considering them again as a great candidate for being located at the Top5 list of teams. With the return of eduzin in the last months and now the addition of a coach, Jorginho from REVOLTZ (another team from the MiBR Organization), Made in Brazil is now as solid as a rock. Let’s see if that rock doesn't break in this avalanche called CPL Winter.

GotFrag was able to talk with Eduardo "eduzin" Chagas about the recent results and facts on the participation of the Team.

How do you see Counter-Strike in Latin America lately?
It's constantly growing, slowly but surely... unfortunately south america does not have as much sponsors as europe and north america, wich makes it hard for us south america to practice and evolve.

Are these latin America teams at the same level as the other professional teams in the world? I mean, can they pull the win after all?
In my honest opinion not yet, we need to see more latin american teams playing cpls, weg, wcg , eswc etc. Only 5 or 6 south american teams actually ever competed at a world level competition, and that is really important to learn from past mistakes, and gain some experience.

What is up with latin America that every single time you guys seem to have the win in your hands something happens and somehow you end up losing the match?
Many reasons, that doesn't happen all the time but it did happen a few times lately. The team went through many roster changes and i think that doenst help at all.

With Jorginho joining the team what changed? I mean, have u assimilated some strats from Revoltz? What do you think that he contributed to the team with?
He just helps us by improving our strats and pointing out mistakes stuff like that. He is also quite good in analyzing other teams.

You guys came from a recent championship in Chile, what are your expectations for the upcoming CPL Winter and how is MiBR preparing for the event?
We've been having visa problems for months now, btt and ton could not get visas in time and we will be playing cpl with 2 standup players, so our expectations dropped a bit. I believe we will be satisfied with a top8 since we wont be playing with our official roster.

What do you think about the CPL? And what about this year's attending teams?
In my opinion CPL is the biggest and most respectable esport tournament ever. The most prestigious for sure. Most of the top teams will be there and they all have a shot at the title.

Thanks, any final words?
Thanks to our sponsors dba nvidia shuttle, and of course thanks to everyone that supports.

it will never be the same without pred, ton and btt, altough i think mibr will have good chances to end in between the top 10 and demonstrate that they are skilled latinamerican pro gamers.

peace

mibr will not get top8 like eduzin expect.. playin cpl with 2 standup players is just to hard for any team, although cogu will be there and we'll can see his awp amazin skills.
