No need to FEAR, CPL is almost here. With two days left before the start of the event Dallas, Texas gears up to host an impressive professional gamer’s event. Still a few people may not be in attendance while others will. “It should be an interesting experience for me,” said Schmidt, “Since it’s my first Deathmatch tournament after playing all those years for WEW in CS.” Some other expected contenders are Steven “Bluewolf” Anderson and Neal “cleaner” Sisbarro, who according to Schmidt have been the practicing players of note. The announcement of the tournament came Friday, December 2nd, leaving competitors limited time to prepare and a huge advantage for some players who have already been playing the game. Rumors are also circulating that Johnathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel might be a late addition to the tournament, since he is known for side tournament play including an Alien vs Predator 2 CPL title and is rumored not to be playing in the Quake 4 event. The Quake 4 tournament begins on Thursday at 10 am with 238 matches. With the first round being single elimination, a lot of players will be knocked out, 119 to be exact. According to a recent report from Sander “Vo0” Kaasjager on ESReality, Benjamin “zyz” Bohrmann and Stephan “Stelam” Lammert will not be in attendance at CPL’s tournament in Dallas nor will he be. His reason for not making the trip is the travel, claiming the World Tour “got to me” and will take the chance to enjoy a break in The Netherlands, his home. With those three big names gone, the Quake 4 tournament shouldn’t have nearly as much of a huge list of CPL World Tour competitors, but many of the older Quake 3 players expect to make their first appearance at a CPL in a long time. CPL’s removal of Quake 3 rocked that community in 2001 before Counter-Strike was adopted. Names such as Jason “socrates” Sylka, Jared “cha0ticz“ Cugno, Sean “daler” Price, and Paul “czm” Nelson, to name a few, will take their shot at CPL’s first Quake 4 event. In the Counter-Strike event, one team rumored to not be attending is f`zer0. The team informed GotFrag at the World Cyber Games that funding would be extremely hard to find and they were all but certain to not make the trip to Dallas.
